1969 Chevelle COPOs
I understand all 1969 Chevelle COPOs were L78 cars but were not SS396 optioned and upgraded with various COPO options. Something I noticed recently is all appear to have SS396 body trim, or rather lack of Malibu body trim - specifically the longer eyebrow going down the side and extending to the rear quarter.
I guess my question is would it be correct to assume all 1969 COPO Chevelles were really SS396 Chevelles just without the Z25 option itself and just didn't have the badging? |
I believe there actually is one COPO 69 Chevelle that does have the Malibu exterior trim.
The car is Daytona yellow with a silver lower. |
I know the where abouts of a green 69 copo chevelle with the Malibu trim! I never seen any documentation on the car but was told it’s a one owner car sitting in the upstairs of a barn with the front clip laying next to it.

That yellow Malibu/COPO would be the ultimate Chevelle, in my opinion. Doesn't get any more rare than that. I would love to know if that was a factory mistake or if it was intended to roll down the line like that. I've seen several regular COPO Chevelles that had factory Malibu-emblem holes in the quarters that were welded closed by the factory and refinished.
