Will a 1502 fit a 396 block?

I believe the 1502 didn't have provisions for the 55-57 bellhousing mounts, but still had provisions for a bolt to the bellhousing starter. So yes, it should work, as long as you use the small snout cast iron starter used on stick shift 396, 427, and 454. Aluminum snout starter wouldn't normally fit, unless you cut one it down on a lathe like I did to lighten the starter my 57 Chevy. Been there, done that. Don't suggest it cause it will weaken the casting severely.

One other item that might be of interest, 1957 thru 1961 Turboglide starters bolted to the block and mated up to a 168 tooth flywheel.
