Default 1973 SD455 Formula White/Saddle

No it isn't mine!

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1973-Pontia....c100033.m2042

Very cool car! Repro window sticker. Cool options like white vinyl top, rear spoiler, Formula steering wheel, A/C. VIN 2U87X3N138135

Lots of little engine compartment parts missing. Wrong air cleaner too. It would need a serious inspection to verify what else is missing but looks like a great car.

Now here is something wild: There were 9 Cameo White SD455 Formulas built. 8 autos and 1 four-speed.

The SD455 Registry already has records of the 8 Cameo White automatic SD455 Formulas. This car's VIN is not among them. That makes 9 white automatics of 8 that are recorded to have been produced. (The 1 white 4-speed is not registered in the data base)

the cordova top is interesting, never seen on a SD455 before. I bet not many opted for that option on the SD455.

I spoke with the owner. (His late father owned the car before him). Very nice young man. I am trying to assist him whatever way I can. I asked him to take some detail photos of part numbers etc. I will post any new photos he sends me. He sad the car was repainted years ago. He will be ordering the PHS Invoice for the car.

Very cool! So unless GM overseas sales are not considered in the US production numbers, then we have an anomaly here since we now have 10 white cars when the records say there were 9 produced.

And here are photos of the dash VIN, cowl tag, and the original 7043270 SD455 carb from the ebay Nebraska car that he just sent me:

I am not a stripes & spoilers kinda guy and would've loved to ordered one of these SD Formulas as a barebone'd, non A/C, 4-speed car!

The stick cars were very rare (and you could not get A/C on them). One of the problems with ordering these cars back when new was that there was very little info on the "no A/C rule" for stick cars. So if you ordered a four-speed SD455 with A/C, the order got kicked back, sat in limbo, or altered to a regular 455 instead of an SD455, without the buyers consent.

Total production was 33 automatics and 10 four-speeds.

Here are numbers for the 73 Formula SD-455 cars:

33 automatic cars:
cameo white=8
golden olive =1
bucaneer red=1
ascot silver=9
verdant green=1
florentine red=3
valencia gold=1
admiralty blue=5
brewster green=1
navajo orange=1
burma brown=2

10 four-speed cars:
cameo white=1
bucaneer red=1
ascot silver=1
porcelain blue=1
florentine red=4
admiralty blue=2

Interiors:
white std=3
black std=5
saddle std=1
white cust=3
black cust=16
saddle cust=7
burgandy cust=7
beige cust cloth=1

Other options:
N98 Rally II wheels=23
P05 Honeycomb wheels=7
D80 Rear spoiler=15
C08 Cordova top=6
Y99 Handling package=33
V32 Rear bumper guards=7
A31 Power windows=12
AU3 Power door locks=7
C60 Air conditioning=25

It's back up on ebay. He pulled the prior auction to send the car to an SD455 specialist (Steve Schappaugh) to get it back in order. Original carb back on, PCV setup back in place and original rims reinstalled, etc. Looks nice.

Needs new front seat bottom inserts (I actually have some of the NOS material in this color in case anyone here buys the car). These commonly tear in cold weather if you kneel on them while chasing a mouse - that's how I ripped one on my Gramma's car. I was not happy.

Report from Steve Schappaugh in the ad. Original sheetmetal, One repaint, has its born-with engine, trans, rear, carb, distributor. From his ad it says it is missing the original starter and radiator.

Looks like a nice car
