12 bolt service replacement housing.
Is there such a thing ? I just pulled a really nice multileaf E 28 0 cast, # 9341 12 bolt out of a '68 camaro. I can find no evidence of an assembly stamp on it. Did they move the stamp to a different location on the later housings?

I bought some parts a couple of years back from a guy. In his barn were 5 camaro 12 bolt housings. The one in the corner behind some plywood, the owner told me his Dad bought that housing over the counter. No stamping. I would assume a complete assembled rear would have a stamping to ID gear ratio. To answer your question, if it was a warranty, then it was a just the housing or one bought over the counter?
Also, look at the backing plate flange on the rt. and determine if the tube has twisted and the numbers are not in the area cleaned?

We are thinking the same way. It makes sense that the only way this came without an assembly stamp was if it was a bare housing. I will spend some time with it today with some stronger lighting. There isn't anything funky with the tubes, so I can rule that out. The guts were no real help as the dates were way off. It does have a nice GM 4;10 gearset dated 5 69.

Stamp
I looked this over with a strong light and found absolutely nothing. It's like getting a block with a fresh blank pad. Too bad only the late year '70 Nova guys would benefit.

Several years back, I had a 1972-dated Camaro/Nova 12-bolt leaf spring housing with no tube stamping. I thought it was an interesting piece because Chevrolet wasn't putting 12-bolts in those particular cars anymore.

Had dinner with a friend tonight and he recalls having a 72 dated 67 mono leaf 12 with the traction bar mount go through his stock.
Sounds like my question is answered. Thanks everyone ! Dave |
