I have PHS paperwork on one of my cars that show it being delivered to dealer code "992".
It shows billing to "307 992".
Does anyone have these codes? Thanks, Ed

Here's the Poncho Dealer Code/Zone search site I use..
Scroll to the lower area to search...it's free too!.
http://www.wallaceracing.com/dealer-search.htm
Since 307 is a wonky Zone # using the 992 Dealer # only first results in a few hits in NC and OK?.
Also Zone # 07 Dealer # 099 Jim Causley Pontiac Detroit MI is the closest I see?.
Knowing you Dealer name would obviously help but if you don't, play around looking for Dealer codes w/ part of the # also using Zone # 07, 30, 37 or whatever and see what you can come up w/?.
Good luck!.

Ed...I've done a little research with these in the past.
<u>3</u> <u>07</u> <u>992</u>
3 is the Pontiac Dealer Region code. Not all Pontiac papers reflect this.
07 is the state Zone code...Michigan.
992 is the Dealer code...Your dealer number isn't showing up on the lists yet.

Rick/Pete:
Thanks for the help. The PHS says that the car was delivered to Pontiac Motor Division and not a specific dealer. I'm hoping that it's a Brass Hat car. What do you guys think?

Considering what PHS has told you, back to your wonky #'s...using the info from both the sources Rick and I laid on you note many Zone #'s 35 & higher are Special and Export #'s also #'s that are close like Zone # 35-997 may be Pontiac Engineering also Zone # 99 may indicate Pontiac Racing or another Special Zone?.
Another idea is giving George Zapora of GM Canada Vintage services a call and running the #'s against what he may have on file?.
He's a really great guy also a member here we wish would show up more often!.

992 is a Zone Inventory car. Many Pontiacs were built according to an order generated by PMD specs, then shipped to a specific zone storage lot, where a dealer could purchase the car straight from that inventory. Once the dealer purchased the car, it would be invoiced to them on that date.
If you have the PHS, in the upper right corner there should be a 3 character code, and my guess is that the code will be "PZA" or similar.
What kind of Pontiac is it, and are there a lot of options?
http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
That sounds accurate.
If you look at all the dealer 900 series numbers in the link I posted, they appear to be Pontiac holding areas.
PeteLeathersac
02-26-2010, 09:34 PM
That's interesting also jives w/ the note on the bottom of the link Rick posted..
"...Pontiac produced numerous builds for Zone Stock, cars that were shipped to Storage Lots within each Zone for subsequent sale to a retail Dealer on a first come, first served basis. These cars sat unused for days, weeks, even months before purchase by a Dealer. Not to be confused with Company Cars that also came thru the Zone but were used by Zone employees and later sold at steep discount to a Dealer. These Zone Storage Lots were always identified by a "99*" code as the "Dealer No.". There were likely multiple locations in each Zone..."
So the result of Ed's #'s indicate it was originally shipped to Zone # 07 Michigan # 992 Holding lot then most likely purchased by a dealer who's #'s wouldn't be noted on the original window sticker and any in car build sheets or even listed in the files PHS uses but would be on dealer generated paperwork and POP only?.
Anyone know if Chevy and the rest of the GM divisions used this 99 # system or what they did use if different?.

My car was shipped to 307 992 and billed to 07 992. So, I'm assuming it wasn't bought by a dealer.

I talked to Jim about this and apparently (at least according to some threads on Performance Years) there are a variety of opinions. I was just looking to see if anybody knew more about it than I already did. I'm going to speak to Mike Noun this evening. Ed

To all those who were providing me with information, I spoke with Mike Noun last evening and he is an incredibly knowledgeable fellow. He took me through items on the PHS Buildsheet that I would have never thought to look at, let alone decode. Thanks again Mike!
Anyway, here's the car that we were discussing

I'm the second owner of this 83,000 mile original paint L72. My friend, Tom Sroufe, rebuilt the engine last year balanced and blueprinted with 11.6:1 compression and one of the new L72 blueprinted cams. The Corvette has its original 3.70:1 posi and Transistorized Ignition. I put F70x15 repros on it because 7.75x15 weren't going to get it.

It's not a Nickey car but, I grew up about six blocks from there so I added the decal. Thanks for all of your help and I hope you like the pics. I was only able to get about 200 break-in miles on the motor before Winter set in so, I'm looking forward to putting some miles on this Corvette soon! Ed

Zone 17 is the Jacksonville, FLA zone.
I see a 17-219 in Ft Lauderdale, and a 17-319 in St Pete, but not a 17-519.

Depending on how curious you are, you could send for the PHS information and pop for the reproduction window sticker, which would have the dealer information on it. PHS seems to have a more complete database than is available to the rest of us.

Ed - the pictures seemed to have dropped off. Could you post a pic so I can see which car you are referring to?
BTW - I agree with Mike's assessment: 307-992 (Pontiac Zone - dealer stock - for storage); Pontiac Engineering is 35-997 (where the Super Duty cars were shipped).

Geez - my bad.
Zone 14 is in fact the Omaha Nebraska zone. Didn't see a dealer number 519.
In spite of losing all credibility my other comments still apply.

I'm not aware of any vintage shots, but will keep my eyes open.
One of the things you might try is to google the address and see if the building is still there/still in use.
I did this for the dealership where my Grand Prix was delivered (Stevenson Pontiac, Ludington MI) and the building is still there, in use as a antique/flea market.

Try Googling the word storm mixed w/ "Peterson Motors" or "Peterson Pontiac" in quotes as it results in lots o' hits that may be worth digging into including old newspapers etc..

Zone 14, Dealer 519, Peterson Motors. I have now found the son of that Pontiac dealer it was in Storm Lake Iowa. The son e-mailed me some pictures. As far as I know that dealer has never been exposed. But I have verified that it is true to be.It has been gone since the mid 80's. His dad started it in or around mid 40's

If you still have this car , or mainly just still have a copy of the PHS Invoice you were speaking of --- i can probably tell you more about it than anyone else can.
It should be a multi-invoice car. But PHS doesn't always have all the copies on file for every multi-invoice car. They also don't automatically include or search out for multiple invoices in every case.
Please post a copy of the Invoice - or send me a PM .
Will also need body build week from trim tag.
Scrutinizing invoices is one of my hobbies
Constantly gaining more info and data and knowledge.
I have PHS paperwork on one of my cars that show it being delivered to dealer code "992".
It shows billing to "307 992".
Does anyone have these codes? Thanks, Ed

Sadly, Ed passed away a couple years ago (June 2013). I was kind of watching for an estate sale or to see one of his cars come up for auction but never did see any activity in that regard, so I don't know where the information ended up.
However - if you would like to extrapolate here (or elsewhere) there are several of us always willing to learn something new.

So sorry to hear of the good fellow passing away.
I read some of his other posts about a Blue Angel Corvette.
My apologies and condolences to all that knew him.
He had posted 3 images from P-bucket that are no longer valid.
I was supposing maybe 1 of them was his invoice ?
Did anyone perhaps grab a right-click save of his invoice ?
Can't do much without a copy , and his trim tag date.
Was also going to send him back to PHS to check files for additional invoice(s).
Thanks Keith
