I would try a steamer that they use for drapery

I used the wife's ironing board and iron with the steam setting on. Prior to that, I hung the headliner from the wall for a week or two and let it drape down and that relieved some of the wrinkles prior to the ironing.

install it.....

the first time I did a headliner, I was really worried about the wrinkles...so, I called my buddy that works at an upholstery shop and he told me to just sit it outside fr a while in the sun and install it and it will shrink smooth. So I installed it. And it looked like crap. This was my own car we were talking about here!....It did not seem very tight and the wrinkles still showed a whole lot...but it did not take long for the car to see some warm days and cool nights in the garage for the headliner to tighten up on its own and look excellent. I called and thanked my buddy after that. Thank God I waited and did not call him sooner and curse him out !! hehe

Iv'e done a few headliners since then and they all look perfect...after a litle while...

I agree ...install it. I left the headliner draped over the roof of my car for a couple of weeks during the summer and when my installer was done...poof-no wrinkles.

For people that install headliner in cold weather, install it using a hand held hair dryer on the wrinkles, it will shrink. Ours was put in the winter. Paul

I agree with Paul. Watched Don White install 2 headliners in the Fall/Winter time frame with a hair dryer and they both came out real nice and tight. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

I never suggested that I had a clue to replacing a headliner so this is what Mike found online.
