I am looking for any info I can find on Byrne Bros Chevy White Plains NY. I just bought a 1969 Hugger Orange X77 that was original bought at Byrne Bros. I have the original bill of sale when the car was purchased and it states its a "Used on track" car and seating capacity "2". Car has never seen the street and was always a racecar. It is a functional cowl hood car with console delete, spoiler delete, radio delete. I found a very old crank trigger set up in the trunk, which I have never seen before,it has the motion style rear end cover and a very old Moroso Mechanical Tach. The stock gas tank had each end cut off and flipped inside out and welded back in to the tank to clear the inboard mounted leaf springs, not a job done by an amateur. I have seen many forums discussing Byrne Bros had a in house Z/28 Racecar that matches this cars description. I am wondering if this is the car, they didn't sell it until 12/1/70 and it was sold as a racecar. Any help would be great.

I to have a Byrne Bros. 69Z. I've been trying to get info on the owners also. No luck yet. The salesperson that owned the Byrne 69Z race car is Bill Barnett. He was a Two time Naples FL. Mayor recently and still resides there.
The Byrne Bros. crew frequents the Dover Dragstrip site, may give that a try. Let me know how you make out.

That's interesting L78 Steve; I was at an event last week with former Mayor Barnett.
I'll have to ask him about this racing days.

Byrne Bros. has a real nice ad in the Sept. 1970 Hot Cars magazine featuring their record holding 1969 Z/28 running in G/S at the AHRA Summer Nats. and the NHRA record holder at 12.12 in 1970. Looks to be a spoiler delete car in the ad also.

Ask him if he has any knowledge of any Byrne Bros. Paper. Would love to know if anyone there saved any.

Guys, spoke with John for a while today. How cool is this. By verification of the original owner's name on the original bill of sale, his car is below...
Thrilled to support John on his effort to bring this back to its racing glory! Signs its the same car... X77, no spoilers, cowl hood. Original owner's name is Vito - check out those doors.

One of my old '69 Zs was a Byrne Brother's car, silver original paint X33 cowl hood car, 711, console/guage, spoilers, M20, 4.10 rear. Nice pop with that driveline combination. It had the Byrne Brother's invoice, protect-o-plate, key knockouts, copy of the original money order he bought the car with and the Byrne Brothers dealer envelope. Good luck finding out more on the orange race car.

Byrne Brothers was on Virginia Road right off the Bronx River Parkway. In my early days [late 70's] in the printing business I used to call on them...it was a huge dealership and they sold 1000's of new cars every year. Their parts department had two of the best Chevy guys in the business...the dealership was well known for high performance.
It closed around 1983?? and a lot of the employees went to work at T.A. Byrne Chevrolet in Mt. Kisco [Tim Byrne was a nephew of one the original Byrne family members]. Sadly that store changed hands when they ran into some financial issues...eventually that location was absorbed by Arroway Chevrolet in Katonah, NY.
The early 80's were a tough time for the old line flagship domestic stores...gas prices and poor products from Detroit didn't help. I'm sure some of the Byrne Bros guys are still around...it would be fun to re-connect and talk about the old days.

Jay you have a nice piece of history there. What are your plans? Keep it as a race car as it was from day one?

Here's another Byrne car pic that needs to land here, front fender name looks like something insanity?:hmmm:
Red or maybe Orange w/ Blk. Top, different car than the Z28 on Pg. 1 also not the known Byrne delivered Yellow L72 Copo either.
Do the side emblems under the Camaro script look smaller than SS emblems also note tail panel Bowtie etc?:hmmm:
:beers:

The dealership in Mt. Kisco was TA Byrne Chevrolet...Tim was Howard Byrne's nephew I believe. There was also a Vince Byrne Chevrolet, TA began shortly after the Virginia Road location closed. Byrne Brothers in White Plains was a giant in the Chevy world back in the day. Their hi-perf parts guy was Jerry Roberts, he ended up in Mt. Kisco for awhile...incredible resource for information.

not sure when they closed
Byrne Brothers Chevrolet in White Plains was still open in 1974
here is a 1974 Z/28 they sold
I know of a 1969 Z/28 sold by TA Byrne Chevrolet and here is a 1977 brochure from them
I used to by parts from Jerry Roberts when he was working at a Chevy Dealer near the Tappan Zee bridge

Had to get the memory chip re-activated...Byrne Bros on Virginia Road closed around 1983 or late 1982...the Mt Kisco store absorbed some of the customers. I remember that Jerry Roberts was working at TA at that point. Donny Marsico was the parts manager, Connie Petruzzi was service Director. TA was a client of mine at the time, sold them printing and marketing material. At some point the dealership developed money problems...not sure when they went out and GM took over the store.
that was a long time ago :eek2:

Anyone know if they put a 454 in anything other than the Chevelle or Corvette? I know not from the factory but dealers besides B/M.

The old ads say 454 Novas and Camaros. Not sure if any were built or still exist.

I purchased my 66 Chevy II SS from the man who managed the parts department at Franks Chevrolet, that was the name of dealership near the Tappen Zee Bridge in Tarrytown NY . I believe his name was Jerry Roberts, it was his wife’s car , I purchased the car in 1989 and still own it today.
Jerry had an early Chevy II he was building with an old school BB Chevy when I used to buy parts from him. He had a lot of parts
I was searching Byrne Bro and found this link to the Z

Not Franks , Elsewhere
trying to remember my conversations with Jerry Roberts from 30 years ago.
I think the car he was building was a big block Chevelle 1964 or 65 not a Chevy II as I said earlier
If I remember correctly he recalled selling many 427 crate engines for cars and boats when at Byrne Brothers parts dept. He said there would sometimes be 4 or 5 there that would be picked up on a Saturday morning.
He remembered the Yenkos and factory 427 cars but had more memories of the 1969 Z/28
as he bought one new. Jerry said they had a very large number of 1969 Z/28s come through. At one time averaging one Z/28 sold per day.

Old thread but here's another fuzzy shot of the Red w/ Blk. hat '69 posted back on Pg. 3 that may as well land here too, Instant Insanity sponsored by TA Byrne Chevrolet, the Byrne family location in Mt Kisco NY.
