I recently purchased a 1970 Chevelle SS that according to the NCRS documents was delivered to Guaranty Chevrolet. I'm trying to track some history on the car and was hoping someone might be from the area from back in the day. The car is somewhat unique in that it was a special order paint car 926-99616 Hugger Orange and was supposedly raced from early in it's life. Although the original engine and transmission are long gone it has some signs of possibly being an LS6. It's a Van Nuys car built late in June of 1970 it still has the correct date coded CRW 4.10 rear axle, 6500 redline tach and single fuel line. It had a roll cage installed at one point and was said to have migrated to the Laurel, Mississippi area. It's a long shot but you never know what someone may remember. Thanks

Guaranty Chevrolet is in Santa Ana on 17th St. My wife used to work there. It was owned by the Hamlin family. My nephews went to school with their kids...
I remember a yellow LS6 from Eddie Hopper in Garden Grove, but not an Orange one, sorry!

Just checking back hoping for more on this one.
Cool Lynn worked @ Guaranty Chev Bruce, does she know if they kept any old records?
If any of the lads mentioned in the linked Super Chevy article are still around, they may know more about what Orange Spec Paint '70 'Velles Guaranty Chev ordered/delivered?
Is the subject car a stick or auto also have you exhausted all chances of a build sheet?
Love to see/hear more about it including which paint reference used on the TT?
Here's a 2015 Mecum sale link w/ yet another Guaranty delivered Orange '70 'Velle but this one an L78 car...

Not much to look at in it's present state. Has a 396 and 700R4 automatic in it now. Originally a bench seat 4-speed with Black interior. Someone has cut the cage out and no luck on a build sheet. The couple of Van Nuys Chevelles I've owned in the past I've found the sheet on top of the fuel tank. This car has had a fuel cell in it at some point so I'm guessing it was found years ago and thrown away or the tank in the car no is not original to the car. I'll post up a couple pictures when I get a moment.

Sounds cool. VN ‘70s also tended to have sheets tucked away in the lower seat springs and in the rear seat. Any luck there?

No idea of the subject build date but if any help for comparisons etc, here's a 2016 Mecum sale link below w/ the Canadian delivered Orange LS6 also discussed in other threads.
He may drop by here first but if not, sYc Member Rick Nelson mentioned in the auction link below is probably the best person to hook up with for more info on these special cars...

Here are some pictures in it's current state. As I said, not much to look at currently but I'll get it whipped into shape. Tony no luck on the build sheet anywhere. I haven't dropped the headliner but I'm not holding my breath.

Neat car. Want some killer 1970s Day 2 Hooker headers for it?

Thanks for the offer Tony. I'm not sure which direction I'm going with the car at this point. It has some large tube 4 bolt collector headers on it now. I'm currently rounding up the 4-speed parts I need to do the swap back to a manual shift and will go from there. I'm between pulling the hood and fenders off, pulling the engine and getting the engine compartment and firewall back in order or just getting the car drivable and getting more serious with details later.

Heading in the right direction with drip rail chrome, wheel opening moldings and a wheel and tire swap...
Looks really nice. :burnout:
Because it's one of the later builds, what's the casting date as well as the assembly date on your CRW 4.10,so I can add it to my data base.

I had a 72 SS Nova that was sold new from Guaranty.
Back in '06-'07 time frame when I owned the car I called the dealer to see if they had any useful info/ dealer automobilia. They didn't but they were kind enough to send me a pair of new license plate frames for daily driving purposes.
The car sold to a friend of a member on the site.
Best,
Dave

Hey Dave,
Not sure in Guaranty in Santa Ana was owned by the same folks as Guaranty in San Diego?
I have an email out to the Hamlin's...so we'll see :)

Hey Bruce,
If memory serves correctly, it is the same. I thought I researched that back when I owed the car and was trying to find more info on the dealer.
Now I'm curious what you come back with.
Hope all is well and regards to the family.
Best,
Dave

Have more pics of that silver 72 SS you can post. Look's like it was a nice original Nova.

Well I didn't see this coming. It looks like someone took a hammer to the fire wall at some point in it's past. I'm not sure what I'm going to do here. I guess just one of the draw backs of buying an old race car, or at least an old car that was raced.

Here are a few more. It is a great car. I'd love to get a Nova again (69 or 70 L78 this time).
Best,
Dave

Thanks Dave!! Love those bowtie baby moon caps. Same caps I have on my 72. To bad someone changed out the steering wheel. Look's like it still has the original rubber floor. Nice Nova...

Yup. Benchseat, rubber mats, 4 speed.
I thought the steering wheel was the correct one for an SS? In any event it was fun.
Best,
Dave

Moving along. Purist will cringe but I had the frame and most suspension parts powder coated. No docs to prove what I think it was so I'm taking the easy way out...LOL. AMK kit for the hardware and keep on progressing forward.
