The Chevy II was introduced in 1962 and continued to be marketed under that model name through 1968. At some point Chevy II was dropped and it became the Nova. But Chevy II stuck.

'Deuce' [means two] probably started with the 1970 COPO Nova Yenko Sportscars Inc marketed as the Yenko Deuce.

Or much earlier and more originally used in reference to the iconic Ford 1932 model - mainly the 3 window coupe version..
Not used so much in this website - but the original use of the phrase in the 'Car World' certainly!

Deuce is also slang for 2. Therefore the term for the car, Chevy II, was around way before the the 70 Yenko Deuce. That is probably why Yenko used that term in 70 to capture the free advertising/word-of-mouth of the term Deuce. As well as to identify, or clarify the SB version of his Yenko Nova for the year vs the 69 427 BB version of the same car.

Referring only to Nova's or Chevy II's, I see many early Chevy II race car photos back in the 60's with some sort of Deuce used in the car's name such as "Deuces Wild" so the slang term used on Chevy II's likely started right after their introduction in 1962.

The original lyrics written by Bruce Springstein were "Cut loose like a deuce another runner in the night" but the words were changed when sung by Manfred Mann's Earth Band. Deuce refers to 1932 Ford Coupe. Originally mentioned in Beach Boys Little Deuce Coupe. ... Actually the song was written by Bruce Springsteen.

For as long as I can remember, or within the car culture as I've known it; people have been calling Chevy II's and Nova's "Deuces" forever. Not something coined by Yenko in 70, but the culture at large referring to the little Chevy Nova's as a Deuce. It was also used largely on the 32 ford as in Lil' Deuce Coupe.

I'm sure the 70 Yenko Nova owners would like to reserve "Deuce" as exclusive to their pedigree rides, but that simply is not gonna happen until all the old guys who call Nova's and 32 Fords deuce's are gone and buried. This slang word has been used to describe certain two door cars for a very long time.

Not sure how old you are but I grew up in a heavy street scene city. and throughout all my days of street racing in the 70's and early 80's, many referred to Nova's as Deuces. The older guys called them that all the time and I don't think that phrase simply died in 68 when GM badged the cars as Nova's.

Case in point, Yenko badging the Nova as a Deuce. :worship:

lol...I was 5 in 1970

But grew up hearing the phrase Deuce from guys born in the 50's who were always referring to built up Nova's on the street. Saw lot's of Chevy II's in Winnipeg's street scene too, but it was loosely used on both tags.

This is hilarious BTW!! I was like 2 in 1970, and began driving in 1985 - FWIW, my local scene never, ever, referred to any of year of Nova as a 'Deuce'. Sounds like it was a regional thing....

So, the Nova being badged as both a Nova and a Chevy II goes back to the 1st generation, and the Chevy II identifier is indeed from being the off shoot of the older and larger Impala line. Some folks believe that '68 was the 'only' year that the Nova was dually badged, but that is not the case, it is simply the last year for that practice. Yenko keyed off the Chevy II moniker when he coined the Yenko Deuce package, and then keyed off of that when he coined the Yenko Ace package for 1971....

The end of your post makes it sound like you're saying Springsteen wrote Little Deuce Coupe :) Obviously not your intent...

“One version is about a car, the other [by Manfred Mann] is about a feminine hygiene product. Guess which the kids liked to shout more?” - quote from Bruce Springsteen

There are members here who like to use "slang" to describe things. A few examples:

GUT: - the interior of a car.

VERT: - short for convertible

DEUCE: Chevy II/Nova

Lots of Deuce word uses including w/ Novas before Yenko but of average car enthusiasts who may understand the '32 Ford thing, what percent would actually know who Don Yenko was much less, ever heard of the '70 LT1 Nova Deuce?:hmmm:
Interesting about Springsteen's song is his original words 'Cut loose like a Deuce' is actually a card game reference for cards quickly discarded, 2's being the least valuable.

As I posted in post #5, Deuce is slang reference for 2:

32 Ford - Deuce Coupe
Cut loose like a Deuce - Dump the #2 cards
Got to dump a Deuce - outhouse for a #2 and NOT PEE

But what people seem to forget is the french word for 2 is Deux! So many english version of a foreign word/language bastardise it.

Around this part of SW Ontario, Chevy II's have long been known as DEUCES. The '69 and laters not so much. That way when your talking to a guy about their car, and he says "it's just a lil Deuce with a 350 and 4sp", one has an idea of what there talking about. It he claims a Nova, it's usually a '69 or later. Early iron ALWAYS had the Coupe after Deuce to identify it.
