View Full Version : TV & Movie Camaros....Bewitched - Aloha Bobby/Rose

I was thinking this morning about Camaros from TV and Movies. .
First thought is 'Bewitched' as being a Chevy sponsored show there was always lots of Camaros being driven by Darren or in background shots. . Any of these known today? .
In the movie Aloha Bobby & Rose there was a 67-8? . I only saw this once at the drive-in back then but recall a line where the Cop or someone says something about Bobby building the motor from a 302? .
Any more you guys recall or know of existing? .

The movie Brewster McCloud featured a 2nd Gen orange Z-28 that changed from regular to rally sport depending upon what scene was being shot.

On one of the first episodes I remember Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery) going for driving school classes with Paul Lynde in a '65 Impala, in some of the black and white episodes she drove some cool 64 and 65 Chevelle SS(s)

Hey I have a vague recollection of that one....this was Paul Lynde in thick glasses before he became the Uncle Arthur character? .
Sure was lotsa' great Chevys on this show and Larry Tate usually tooled up in a current 'Vette. .
I remember there was some soap-box derby fun in one episode too....wasn't Chevy a sponsor of some kind for the American soap-box Derby Championships? .
Lastly, Lizzy Montgomery as Samantha....Yummmmm, I think a lot of us are still in love w/ her? .

Hey Van....great on the pics! . If this is indeed the Boby/Rose car I wonder about the car's history before the movie....the flare style sure looks a lot like the old road-racing style?
And Van....is your 935 a Kremer car? . Wild!!! . I have a couple Kremer Bros. stories for you. .

Here's a web site that you can spend a little bit of time at, searching a database for cars used in TV shows and movies. It doesn't have every show/movie listed, but there's quite a bit.

Lot's of great Chevy's in Bewitched.
Part I liked best was that Darrin just jumped in his top-down convertible every morning...no dew or moisture to be concerned about! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif
One show where Sam wonders if Daren would have been better off if they never met shows playboy Daren tooling around in a 1970 big block Corvette.

No but major Nelson drove a blue GTO convertible (i think it was blue)!
I actually compiled quite an extensive list of Vehicles I personally spotted in old Tv shows & Movies growing up.
I have it here somewhere, but two that I remember recently shown were the 1974 "Kolchak:the Night Stalker"where he gets into his used 1968 blue Camaro convertible, while an informant waits in the backseat.
Also Hawaii Five-0 took on Chevrolet as a sponsor in 1971.
There is one episode showing a Black 1971 SS 454 Chevelle being driven by law enforcement as they surround the criminals hideout, and of course,McGarrett saying "Bookem Dano!"

As a matter of fact, a friend of mine owns the camaro that was in Aloha Bobby and Rose. Once in a while he even drives it. He brought it to work one day and I checked it over pretty good. Traco had built the motor long ago. I would have thought that it would have had a GM cross-ram but it now runs 8 webers. Cam is pretty radical as it hardly idles. Lots of old school race car stuff like fuel cell, roll bar etc. It is a little rough but he wants to leave it as original as possible. Looks like he put a cowl hood on it for that car show in S.F. He also owns the yellow duece coupe and a black hot rod that was in American Grafitti.

If any of you go see the movie "Luck Number Sleven" there is a scene at the begining were the characters flash back to 1970 or so . It is a funny scene because someone must have a friend in the muscle car business..in the parking lot where the scene takes place are what would be an inordinate amount of muscle cars even for 1970..all makes and models..great scene !
Pete, would love to hear your Kremer stories ! I had a couple of Kremer cars but I sold two and the other one was wrecked at Sebring a few years ago by my co driver/partner and needs a front clip. I now have a 935 M16 that I am getting ready for the Monterey Historic's in August. This car is very much like a K3 but the body was done by American International Racing/AIR in S. Cal . Here is a photo of my two Kremer cars at Daytona in 2000.

I hammered out a lengthy posting yesterday and got lost in the midst of the site problems....here's some of it. .
Ray....your comments of buddy's Aloha Boby/Rose car makes me wonder even more of it's history before the movie? . Again the flares appear the old road-racing style, now you mention a Traco engine, old cell and roll-bar....could it be an old Penske, Smokey or other Trans-Am car from this era and if so could have a much more significant history than the Aloha movie? .
Van....I PM'd you on some Kremer Bros. stuff....included is a link to this Kremer 962 although the story I'll fill you in on later isn't a happy one. .

There is a scene in Bewitched where Samantha leaves some place with three of her friends and they proceed into the parking lot and stop to say goodbye or whatever and lined up behind them is the complete line of Chevy performance cars for 69, An SS/RS Camaro, Chevelle, Nova and Vette. . Very similar to the magazine ad showing all these cars lined up. I remember this distinctly, there has to be some crazed Bewithed fan that knows about it. SULLY
I saw that!
We have a small local channel station here,Channel 23,called ME TV.
It stands for Memorable Entertainment Television. This is not on cable,it's standard antenna. They run 24/7,365 of old mothball TV shows like Hawaii Five-0,Bewitched,Hee Haw,Johhny Carson,Green Acres,Baretta,Starsky & Hutch...etc.
You name it,they run it. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
That particular Bewitched episode came on last month, and I couldn't make a copy of it before it dissappeared. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
My favorites are any episode that use the current city streets/traffic for backdrops.

Pete .. sounds good on the Kremer stuff.. I have supplied a lot of pictures for the Racing Sports Car site for Sears Point 1977-1987.. there are also a lot of very cool first gen Camaro , Vette ,etc. pictures from the earlier IMSA and SCCA races
Now that you mention it as I remember the interior on that Bobby and Rose car was very sparse and did resemble an old IMSA/Trans Am car....

History of the Camaro in Aloha Bobby and Rose; a 1968 Z-28 bought by James Garner to race in the Trans-am series, yes it was built by Traco. After its racing career it was sold and then resold to Cine Artists movies for the movie. After that it was sold to a 16 year old who kept it till a few years ago.He did keep it as it was from the movie!!

If it was James Garner's car then it was more than likely from Clippinger Chevrolet in Covina Ca where my 69 Van Nuys Z is from and was purchased through Bob Wingate the main guy at Clippinger....

Exactly what I was thinking Van....I looked through the same pics from the old thread last night but didn't see anything on a '68 Trans-Am Camaro. . One interesting thing to note was that Traco was in the shop next door so adds more to this all being a real possibility? . I know you've seen this car in person....sure be interesting to have a closer look noting engine, cage, cell, suspension components etc. . If the Garner connection part is true, this could get even more interesting as Yenko was involved in this group of guys also racing a similar car? . What now? .

AlohaBR,
The (claimed) Aloha Bobby & Rose car was for sale on ebay about 2 years ago. The guy had the VIN listed in his ad. Was a January '67 built car from the Van Nuys plant. Traco did not build cars, they built engines. Dick Guldstrand had a shop next door to Traco and would have been somebody that Garner would go to to have a race car built. You should check with Dick Guldstrand to see if he built such a car. I have spoken with DG about Camaros which he built in the late '60s and he never mentioned a car for Garner but it is worth calling and asking.

Flat hood and the flares are a little different...the book sounds way cool too...The car is on page 2 of the thread. Maybe shoot him a PM .
