I read the post for best moonshine movie and got an idea. My Wife and I love to collect old car movies. We used to watch The Lost Drive-in all the time before it was dropped. Why not start a list of great old movies for everyone? I can't remember all the names of the movies, but I'm hoping some people might know a few. If everyone can come up with one title or more there will be a lot of movies to watch. I'll start off with a few that we have. King of the Mountain, with Dennis Hopper and Harry Hamlin, Grand Theft Auto and Eat My Dust with Ron Howard. Of course have Corvette Summer and Vanishing Point. I know there were a lot with Joe Namath, but have no clue of the names. Anyone?

So many great Car movies come to mind, but if there was one Movie that I had to pick,I think it would have to be Steven Spielberg's 1971 movie,"DUEL".
That movie really kept me riveted to the screen in enjoyment.I thought it was one of the best scripted, acted and visually acceptable movies from beginning to end.

BTW..
The stuntman who drove that tractor/trailer in this movie, was the great Carey Loftin.Seen here on the far right, next to George Barris on the set of "The Munsters".
http://varaces.com/data/images/features/2005awards_StuntDrivers1a.jpg
"As a stunt driver and stunt coordinator, Carey Loftin helped create some of the most exciting and famous chase sequences in history. His body of work spans 5 decades and includes classics like The French Connection, Bullitt, Vanishing Point all the way up to more modern favorites like Used Cars and Days of Thunder. When Loftin worked on Bullit, his fellow stuntmen said "Carey Loftin was easily the best car man in the business..." And that fact was proven time and again throughout his lifetime. He died in 1997 at the age of 83.

What was the name of the movie from the mid-1970's that
featured a guy & girl team ( crime spree ) and in the end
they were killed in a Charger ( I believe ) trying to beat
out a train at a R-R corssing. Something like crazy Larry
& dirty Jane....... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif Anyone remember?

Bullit was one of my all time favorites. McQueen http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif
I also liked Stingray ( w/ the black C2 Vette ) http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

A newer movie with enough car culture to keep me interested is "Dazed and Confused". Set in '76, but enough late '60's and early 70's muscle to make anyone grin. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif

-------I dont know about you guys but all of us that used to work at Classic Motors used to get together and build partys around seeing "Used Cars". Talking to any of them today you will find out we all still think its hilarious. There arent any chase scenes, but the movie just has so many points of reference for us old car nuts. It was just on a couple of days ago. Catch it if you can and tell me you didnt laugh.........Bill S

Another movie that made me http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif was McQ with John Wayne.
He should have stuck to horses ( the real onese ! ). They
destroyed his beautiful 2nd generation Trans Am in that one!
Almost made me cry. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

What about Thunderbolt and Lightfoot? Didn't they ruin a Trans Am in that one, too?

French Connection still has the best car chase scene I've ever seen.

I also like the Burt Reynolds movie, White Lightning. He had a brown [Chrysler] see-dan with a 426 hemi provided by the FBI.

There was a cool chase scene in the movie " Aganist All Odds" Where a Ferrari and a Porsche raced across Sunset Blvd. Carey Loftin drove the Ferrari. I think he was in his 70's at the time. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

that was actually a 72 galaxie 500 Burt Reynolds drove in that movie.if you remember, they did a in car shot of him sitting in it,but he was actually sitting in a Mach 1 with 4 speed, and later in the show you can see Burt shoving the galaxie into park. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Thanks for correcting me. I haven't seen the movie in many years but I also recall that the car sounded like a 4 spd but clearly wasn't....no lurching and both hands seen on the wheel when the car made the sound of shifting....unless Burt was shifting the car with a different appendage. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

The dirty Larry thing was " Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry" with Peter Fonda and some blonde bimbo from Australia. A very similar story line to "Return to Macon County" with Don Johnson and Nick Nolte (probably one of the first movies each one of them made)featured a 57 Chevy with some stupid toggle switch that behaved like nitrous, it is one of the cooler 57's that have been in the movies though. The movie "Hot Rod" is one of my personal favorites and is usually left out of many 'car movie' lists.

-'65 Hemi Dodge...engine transplanted to Gasser style Willys
-'69 Olds (antagonist's car)
-Tons of other great drag cars/scenes.
I haven't seen it for years but I believe it's listed somewhere on Amazon.

Have you guys noticed that in several of the movies with
David Spade ( also in Tommy Boy ), the featured car is a
hemi-powered something. In Joe Dirt, a Superbird was his
"car of choice" and I believe Joe Dirt was trying to get
back his Hemi Satelite. I'll bet David Spade is a closet
Hemi guy! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Chevrolet brought three show Corvettes to San Antonio two weeks ago including the Bill Mitchell racer. This car had a fresh restoration and looked great. It was noted in its write-up that Elvis drove this car in Clambake.

Heres one I can't remember the name of, late 70's Camaro, stunt car driver, scientist on the run with a disease in a canister. Ring any bells?
