Great progress Rick.

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Looks great.
I see you posted a disassembly pic showing the broadcast sheet stuck to the inside of the fender. Were you able to read any of it? |

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
I remember a thread where someone removed the tar from a build sheet found on the floor of a Chevelle.
I was amazed it came out legible. Ryan |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
James Groome posted a good way to remove the tar from a build sheet with before & after pics. I will ping him to respond to this post.

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
There really is only a small section of the Broadcast sheet there, so after cleaning with Acrysol, I wouldn't expect much info, but I will eventually do it.

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Now the next famous question? When does she go to Body Shop? Frame resto is next, I assume?

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
I don't have any before pictures any longer.
I will post some of the finished build sheet later. I used fast lacquer thinner, believe it or not the thinner will not remove the "carbon copy" type of impact printing on the factory sheets. I first did this back in 2001 and have done it countless times since. The GTO Judge conv one I did was completely black from tar, I put it on a stack of paper towels then put a few paper towels over the top then set the whole stack on a piece of expanded metal thus acting as a grate, then poured the lacquer thinner through the stack. The paper towels absorbed the tar freed by the lacquer thinner. You will be amazed by how much tar you can remove. I used cheap fast lacquer thinner for gun cleaning you may be able to use acetone with the same results. |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Here are some of the judge build sheet... keep in mind this sheet was completely tar stained, it looked like a thin piece of roofing tar paper paper.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-b...BSheet%2B3.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-N...BSheet%2B4.JPG I have not fond anything which will remove Rust stains, rust is also VERY acidic and will break the paper down quickly. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-q...BSheet%2B1.jpg |

Rick
Where you able to use the doors that came on the car! |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
We are using the original driver's door, but I will put the original passenger door aside for future repair, as we had a much nicer one in stock here to use.

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found

Let me go see if we have something in the back.... Ryan |

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
I really appreciate the time you have taken to photograph the work you guys are doing to this special car. Alot of us hobby guys wonder how the pro's approach certain repairs , you have shown alot. One question- what kind of material did you use on the rear outer wheelhouse to bridge to the quarter for support- right above the center of the wheelwell lip. Thanks.

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found

https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5-dscf7636.jpg 380 Lbs of metal from the car. Hey, a whole $19 worth. Woo Hoo! |

John </div></div> John, Used a piece of foam of a similar density as to what came off the car originally. It was bonded to the wheelhouse in that area, but not to the quarter panel. |
