Re: Mecum car prices
-----Colin,,,About 1978 or 79 I bought a gorgeous red 1966 Hemi Satellite from Jerome Shinkay. He got it from Fuller. I later went to Bobs place on unrelated business and saw your new acquisition. At that time he was telling me he would be buried in the car, but obviously that thought changed. Even then I thought it was probably the coolest Chevelle ever ordered. About a year later my boss, Richard B had an auction downtown and I needed to sell one of two cars and the Hemi turned out to be the one. As it happened, Bob Fuller was at the auction with a beautiful 1970 454 Vette coupe, and he wanted the Hemi back. We ended up trading and somehow in the middle of all that Bob got angry at me and would never talk to me again. To this day I dont know what sparked him because as we all know, I am a warm wonderful human being. I should have been mad at him because the Corvette turned out to have a one piece Ecklers nose on it. It wouldnt have done me any good in any event and it was at least partially my fault for not looking over the car close enough. I trusted Bobs description, and while he might not have known I always sort of felt like he did.........Bill S

Re: Mecum car prices
The "Rocket" car belongs to a very close friend of mine here in Greensboro. He decided not to sell the car and bought it back. His son started getting upset the night before he was to leave town and head to Indiana. No money would have bought it. He called me when he got home and told me he was offered $700k with a trade to sell it. The guy that made the offer told him he thought it was a million dollar car, but, of course didn't have the money. The seller has plenty of money and believe me when he made up his mind he wasn't going to sell it , no amount of money would have bought it. It met reserve if that tells you anything. I have been up and down that car numerous times. He has it on a lift in his garage. You should see the workmanship that went into that car. It is wicked mean!

Re: Mecum car prices
You saw the owner in front of the podium buying his car back. I spoke to him at length and he was really regretting selling it. He hoped it would not meet reserve but if it did he would just bid to buy it back until he felt he couldn't bid any longer. Nice guy that realized just what he was giving up. He had it stored on a lift, under a cover and kind of forgot just how special of a car it is.
