Are you going to paint the gas tank white ??
|
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
The Roofs certainly considered a white underside to be the way to go . I'll probably just keep it stock colors underneath there for the time being ...

Wow...I'll get to see a car that resides just a few miles away from me for the first time....2000 miles away from me (kinda like the Edel Deuce...which resides about 2 miles from work)

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Looks great. I'm still looking for a set of those spark plug wires you have. Anyone !!!!!!!

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Very nice car. I would LOVE to have one of those sitting next to my GSS Demon. I wish my dad had bought one of those rather than the dark green 350 Nova he had.

MCACN II has come and gone and what a HOOT! Big thanks to Eddie M. for all of his help, technical guidance, and detailing secrets in prepping the Deuce for the show (he had two Camaros of his own to get ready!). I thot I started converting it early enough back to the way the Roofs Day-Two'd, but boy did I under estimate. You'd think it wouldn't take long to bolt on a bunch of speed parts - suffice it to say I couldn't have done it by myself. Eddie's wonderful wife, Kimberly, is glad to have Eddie back home rather than him spending countless hours at my shop prepping the Deuce!

Had the opportunity to meet this classy lady. Dr. Lynn Yenko was in 9th grade when she applied the stripes to her Dad's Deuces. She doesn't recall how much she got per car, but told me she worked at the dealership in various capacities until she went to WVU for college. She said she really enjoyed the Yenko people and all of the different jobs she had at the dealership. She majored in Electrical Engineering AND pre-Med. She now practices cardiology in the Chicago area. Very sweet, approachable lady that appreciates and promotes her Dad's phenomenal legacy.

Thanks Jake. It was nice meeting two generations of Dykstras. Please say "hey" to your Pop for me.

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
"9th grade and applying the Yenko Duece Stripes", WOW Lynn does not look like she is of that age!! She looks much younger... I think it was very professional and classy for her to sign autographs and pose for pictures.. She seems like a very nice woman...

Looks really good. Can you post a pic of a side shot with the slots? And if your done with the wires yet i'll take them. Ha, Ha.. Jeff

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Hey Jeffrey. Keep trolling for the wires, they'll come along. Toughest part for me was snipping the stock GM connectors off so they'd fit into the Mallory distributor cap. Here's a couple shots I have access to (am on the road)...
Eddie M. did the nice artwork on the "Ansen" design - a lot tuffer than it looks. Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
I hope i just purchased the correct wires. NOS GM 550 high temp. steel core ignition wires. Delco, orange in color insulation & no date codes. Jeff
|
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Hey Jeff - I don't know whether that is correct or not. Might want to post your question and a photo of your wires on a thread by itself in "Technical & Restoration" section. The smart dudes will have a better chance of seeing it.

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Yes . I bought those wires. They look the same to me. I just like the way they look with the LT-1 & the old tach drive distributor which is just what i have. Did i do good or not ?
|
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
What tach do you have ? I purchased an old Jones motrola that i'm going to hope to mount on the steering column.
|
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
90 degree boot ends at the spark plug is for a small block. They read AC Delco Packard SS550. I have a set on my 69Z. I also think they say 3Q84.

Tach is the original Dixco HT/x, electric hood mounted which was installed as part of the Yenko conversion. It is indicating faster than actual with the Mallory Coil. I will need to figure out the appropriate resistance to calibrate it better. |

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
The article was originally going to be on the Deuce in stock trim. So the first photo shoot was shot near the end of September and the Nova was stock (except for the slapper bars). I picked a picturesque setting at Saguaro Lake Ranch north of Mesa, AZ. I had been there before and thought it would make a good back drop. The camp dates back to the 40s and is operated by the same family. They lease the land from the Fed Gov't.
Here are a few shots I took (after mimicking what Jeff Koch did ). For those of you familiar with the area out here, the last shot has the Salt River in the background - great for tubing in 115 deg Wx ! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...e/DSC_0020.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...DSC_0028-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...e/DSC_0039.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...e/DSC_0005.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...DSC_0026-1.jpg |

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
I've been talking to Terry about the whole day-two movement for about a year now and he increasingly warmed up to the idea. He liked what MCACN was doing with the "Day-Two Concours" thrust. The problem was convincing his bosses. When he took the idea to them, they told Terry "what's 'day-two'?". Well, Terry hung it out there and convinced his bosses to have confidence in his choice. To appease his bosses he defined "day-two" on the cover: "RETRO SPEED PARTS........FOR PERIOD PERFECTION" Terry also chose to write about the surge in day-two in his editorial, which makes for interesting reading. Sooooooooooooooo, if you like day-two send the editor an email [ tmcgean@hemmings.com ] - he said that is what will sell the bosses on future features of day-two'd muscle cars.
