Re: Day 2 parts discussion
Not Chevy, because starter is on the wrong side{Buick or Olds}.
|
Re: Day 2 parts discussion
Oldsmobile/Pontiac/Buick. All those parts were removed last week from my 65 442. It also had headers that I had to sawzall because they interfered with removing the 400.

Re: Day 2 parts discussion
Ah, I didn't figure it was Chevy, but it looked like a Muncie bolt pattern. GM did make some cars other than Chevys, now that I think of it.

Re: Day 2 parts discussion
This is the regulator that came with the first Holley fuel pump I ever bought. A red one that I purchased and raced with in the '70s. http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t...regulatorB.jpg

Re: Day 2 parts discussion
So, I wasn't imagining that I had a red pump with a red regulator after all.

Re: Day 2 parts discussion
No you weren't imagining it. I knew that I had one somewhere when I started reading this thread. It just took me this long to find it.

W&H DuCoils all used the same cap and rotor regardless of what engine it fit. |

Looks like you have one coil, two condensers, and two sets of points (each set of points has a dedicated condenser). Most likely the coil charged up each of the two condensers and they both discharged simultaneously, one to each set of points. The rotor then sends the combined hotter spark to a single plug electrode. Really like the cool can. |
Re: Day 2 parts discussion
I was kinda scratching my head on the rotor with two discharge points too. I remember my Dad ran a 312 with a Paxton in the mid 1960's that he said had twin ignition systems. Turns out it had a Ducoil running 2 coils, which he said seemed to require frequent cap changes due to misfires.
In a similar way to the Mallory Double Life, the Ducoil would alternate the points. Since they used 2 coils, it gave them more saturation time. The key was that you had to reconfigure the plug wires. So if you were running an engine with a 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 the new cap configuration would be 1-5-4-2-6-8-7-3. Neither of us knew that off the top of our heads. Needed to to sketch the cap and distributor rotation on paper, so I think it's right. If I find any old pictures of the 312, I'll be sure to post them. |
