They were applied by hand while the shaft was still in the lathe, or balancing machine. Have talked with a couple guys that built shafts at Parma Chevrolet

I have never seen any 1970 shafts that were nice and neat and always looked haphazardly applied. However, the 69's that I have seen, especially mine were nearly perfect in application with very sharp edges like they were taped. However, I know they were never taped so likely change a change in the method they used to place them.

Well if I need to remind you, one of my first cars was a 69 Chevelle SS396 (with a 427) so I am not going to argue to much with you. ;)
