Re: WHO restores/rebuilds the OEM 3138 HURST Shifters
Yes Pete does nice work, but not cheap, all I was trying to say is for his price you can buy a complete shifter body....not that I am a big fan of Jim at HB

Re: WHO restores/rebuilds the OEM 3138 HURST Shifters
Thanks for all the above advice and comments.....I had no idea it would
be so expensive to re-assemble my CLEAN, PLATED parts. I may (or may not) be able to do this myself, but with no experience didn't want to struggle with it. I'll continue to ask my 70' Camaro contacts for further suggestions. |
Re: WHO restores/rebuilds the OEM 3138 HURST Shifters
I took mine completely apart and cleaned and lubed it (didnt want to replate it) and it wasnt bad at all

Re: WHO restores/rebuilds the OEM 3138 HURST Shifters
What about the rubber bushings where the shift rods go in how is that redone ? Will the metal ones found in a Pit Pac fit the levers correctly?

Those metal and plastic bushings are for aftermarket shifters with a larger hole. No one re makes the OEM bonded on seal. Pete Serio has nice fitting replacement rubbers on his WWW. I think it is presision Pontiac. His link is posted on pg 1 of this thread. Mike |
Re: WHO restores/rebuilds the OEM 3138 HURST Shifters
Correct Mike.
Link to his website for Chuck and FYI rebuild without plating services is $239. With all new plating services it's $499 http://precisionpontiac.net/Shifter_FAQ.aspx Bushings are available in his store. |
Re: WHO restores/rebuilds the OEM 3138 HURST Shifters
they make a replacement rod bushing for the levers that looks like the original 1969 molded on bushing. They are not molded on but look better then the 1970 and later style replacement rod bushing
also check the springs when rebuilding a shifter as the original springs can get soft after 40 plus years |

Chuck...My 2 cents...Pete did mine and it was flawless!!
