Is that why some 8 tracks play real low volume and some play fine in the same player?

Mr70 06-10-2017 07:28 PM

I believe so,tolerances between cases as there were so many different manufacturers of them. Some sit more true to the head than others.
Remember the ole match book shim? ;)

It was in fact found to be the tapes. Some play better than others usually the ones that feel like they are constructed better.

I agree with Rich. I have the factory 8-track player in my 69 Malibu. Plays like a champ. Some tapes better than others. The best is Don Ho!!. One of my Faves.

It's not just restricted to 8Tk tape cartridges.
I own a large amount of Cassette tapes as well as CD's.A few cassettes have attitude as well as many of the CD's have a hum to them, put em another deck, and they play fine.

I use a 8-Trk to cassette converter, then a cassette to 3.5mm stereo input jack, then hook it to my phone or ipod.... Sounds just like the tape :)

My Eagles Hotel California tape plays pretty well. The best tape I have is Seals and Crofts which I'm not a huge fan of but someone gave me it in a lot of old 8 tracks and I tried that tape and it has not acted up yet. It is one of the ones that feels like it is constructed better. My Doors and Canned Heat tapes broke. I'm gonna try to fix those, winter projects..
