Looking into Eufy system for garage and house, It rates pretty high for home camera system, cameras are battery powered and last 180 days and 365 depending on model. No monitoring fees, they record sound as well. Monitor on your smart phone. https://www.amazon.com/stores/eufy/E...C-FB51054C0E9B

I am guessing there are some additional advances in security systems.

In addition to camaras, I want something that will automatically dial the police if there is a break in. Even though my shop has not land line or internet service, I understand I can get an alarm that uses a sim card about the size of a credit card, and that the stand alone card costs like 10 bucks a month.

Any down side?

Reason I am posting:

I was reminded this morning how important a security system will be once I get some expensive things in there. I have talked about the Shorts (B.D. Short and his father) who own Shorts Auto Repair here in Guthrie. Before they owned the building, it was Austin Chevrolet. We have at least one member whose car was purchased new in Austin Chevrolet. The elder Mr. Short worked at Austin starting in 1955 and stayed working (on a limited basis) with his son until he passed about a year ago.

B.D. rents our a small warehouse for storage. It is about two blocks from my shop, but MUCH less visible. The one thing I have going for the shop is that it is very well lit on all sides, AND there is a dive bar right across the street so someone is always coming and going at night.

Well, the damn thieves broke into B.D.’s warehouse and stole multiple vehicles (including his father’s cherry 62 Chevy) and tons of equipment. There are some security cameras in the area (BD had none) and the local constabulary is reviewing footage. Hoping something comes up.

Man that sucks you are understandably paranoid.

I'd say just to build on the comments..

-Motion sensor lights, light the bastards up and then the camera footage will be useful
-Locks or chains through the big door track.
-Make sure your entry door frame is up to task. A baddy with a crowbar can make short work of a cheap door by just bending the door frame out a half inch.
-Find out how the robbers accessed the other guy's place and make sure that aspect of your building is secure.
