Mark, you’re correct. The 396/425hp was optional in the impala.

Talking about emblem misplacement, the silver car is missing the truck emblem entirety.

The block does appear to have the 65-only "fangs" on the front, but still no shot of the all-important deck stamp. LOTS of stuff wrong and/or missing under the hood too. Also note the two plugged holes in the firewall, suggesting it had dealer or aftermarket under-dash AC at some point. Possible in an L78, but relatively unlikely (as compared to dealer AC installations in hydraulic lifter cars). |

I’m no expert on this type of car, but is this outside tail light that’s mounted in the quarter panel extension supposed to look like this?

Yeah lots of detail stuff not right. It looks like both VIN tag and cowl tag are pop riveted. Air cleaner appears to be correct, shouldn't have the "FRONT" service decal at all. The service decal should be on the passenger side of the air cleaner body (#6421970). Missing the idler pulley and bracket. Oil filler shouldn't be chrome or zinc (should actually be a different style all together, flat inside). The crank pulley should be 3 groove cast iron type. After market fuel line, no inline filter. Missing trunk emblem is odd. Not sure about the taillight on the extension. Something is off. The deck lid alignment doesn't look right either. That might help, but that tail light kinda points downward. Would like to see stamping too.
