I believe the trunk housed motors and hydraulics which raised and lowered the car as well as rotated the internals of the drive trains and possibly the front ends/ engine assemblies where changed as part of the original display articulation. None of which remained with it when Mark acquired it.

What you did not see was all of the special notes, instructions, etc.... regarding moving it. It's not a sturdy assembly and the separate front assembly was said to be fragile and easily damaged.
