Also check out the Norfolk Naval Shipyard...
The Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, Virginia is the oldest naval shipyard in the United States. It was established November 1, 1767 under the British flag, thirty-one years before the creation of the United States Navy Department. It has felt the impact of 10 wars in which it was three times burned. Six of the fleet's older battleships were modernized at the Norfolk Navy Yard: the TEXAS in 1925-26, the NEW YORK in 1926-27, the NEVADA in 1927-29, the ARIZONA in 1929-31, the MISSISSIPPI in 1931-33, and the IDAHO in 1931-34. https://www.navsea.navy.mil/Home/Shi...History/Roots/ |

Our local news ran a story about the 6 survivors of that attack returning again this year for the memorial. 1 of them still from the Arizona. A couple of these guys are 103 years old now...wow. To know they survived and then lived this long is amazing.
