Re: Mancuso Deuce yanking 'em off the ground!
Schoneye;
You are right, there were only those two COPO Novas that went to canada that we are aware of. Bob has told me about this Astro blue car before, but to my knowledge it appears to be an owner transplant. Until we can talk to an owner or the orig. owner of the car, we really don't know how it ended up with an LT1. However, stranger things have happened, could've been an engine swap done by Mancuso! |
Re: Mancuso Deuce yanking 'em off the ground!
Wish I could get in touch with him after all these years. He bought the car new at Mancuso and it was one of the fastest at school. His brther bought an L78 70 Nova in silver from the same dealer. That car was still under blankets 10 years ago with 22k on the odometer. The Astro blue car gave way to a 68 427 Corvette a couple tears after he bought it. I will try again to make contact with him. I know he worked at O'hare airport for a longtime.

Re: Mancuso Deuce yanking 'em off the ground!
Was there any reason why Yenko was the only dealer to order the '70 COPO Novas?
Is there some Doulass * COPO Novas out there somewhere? |
Re: Mancuso Deuce yanking 'em off the ground!
That's a very good question, we don't really know why nobody else jumped on the '70 LT1 Nova bandwagon. One things for sure, it makes tracking and identifying the Yenko Deuces a lot easier!

Re: Mancuso Deuce yanking 'em off the ground!
The 70 Z/28 got a lot of attention when it showed up late and may have stole the limelight from the LT1 Nova. Both were great cars but Chevy wanted to promote the Z/28 since it was RPO.

Re: Mancuso Deuce yanking 'em off the ground!
I run into a guy at local shows that also claims to have bought a 1970 nova with a LT-1 in it from the factory. He is well versed in engines and says there is no doubt it was an LT-1. He purchased the car new and says he really didn't think anything of it until he heard about the yenko deuces. He is trying to find the car. Hopefully he finds it. I believe the guy. Belair62: This one is blue also!! Could it be?

Re: Mancuso Deuce yanking 'em off the ground!
I don't think a lot of dealers jumped on the wagon, as some got stuck with the 427 Camaro's and they were worried the insurance company's would getting wise. The LT-1 was still new as to real performance capabilities.

Re: Mancuso Deuce yanking 'em off the ground!
What class did this car run in? Was the LT1 Nova approved by NHRA for Super Stock class?
