Chuck - Are you implying that it would be OK if the anodized "layer" is removed for good? That's what would have to happen on a anodized alum piece....once the scratch, etc occurs the "defect" has likely scratched through the anodized layer. Can't really be "blended", etc with sanding since that would just open up a larger area where the anodizing is removed. Anodizing hardens the aluminum to a certain depth.

Accordingly, all the anodizing would have to be removed and then any scratches, etc dealt with. Then the piece becomes a "maintenance" item requiring periodic waxing or polishing.

Best bet would be to have the whole pieces redone. Possibly VERY REASONABLE price-wise due to the lack of heavy/numerous scratches.

IF you don't want to reanodize -
Remove the anodizing with HEAVY DUTY EASY OFF OVEN CLEANER then polish with Mother's by hand, but it will require periodic maintenance.

Use Boeshield T-9 to seal -- soaks into the metal and lasts.

With No experience I'm hoping / thinking that these Aluminum clad Headlight bezels & Front/Rear Window Reveal with Hold their polish nicely on a show car / lightly driven street car. There is a variety of sealant products that should help be prevent tarnishing.

I may try the Easy Off idea or take my bulk of parts to a company in Seattle that can strip in a large vat for ??? cost $$$ We shall see.

I did all of the side trim for my brother's 73 LT Z28 as I stated above, I have been removing anodizing from aluminum items since the 1980's with HD oven cleaner.

Here ya go... piece on left is partially stripped, see the "brighter" patches on the trim... that is anodizing left after the first "stripping"
The right has been stripped and then polished with mothers.
Obviously if you find mild scratches etc a little water sanding with 1500 - 2000 - 3000 then polish - same as stainless JUST MUCH LESS AGGRESSIVE on grits.

Sully, what about Dons east coast restorations. They did the windshield mldgs on my 67. They did a great job. A little pricey, but a great job. I think they are in Lindenhurst, if my memory serves me.
