I gotta agree with Verne, it's a pretty rare car as is.

However...................... IF you DO decide to '09 her................. how about a 340 HP version, and leave the three-on-the-tree! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

I gotta agree about keeping the six-cylinder/three speed combo. They all don't need to be super fast rubber burners. Just crank down all four side windows and cruise in your Super Sport. I'm also very curious to see a close-up picture of that shifter-less console!

I'm going to say keep the six!

Probably far fewer 6-cyl SS cars than 409 cars nowadays. Leave it alone!

Re: my latest barn find

I hate to tell you this, but in '64 the 3-spd was no longer the standard transmission with a 409 engine. The 340 was available with either the P/G or 4-spd, but the 400 & 425 were only available with a 4-spd. The 3-spd was still the "standard" transmission in all models, including the Super Sport, but only with the 6cyl or one of the 327s.

The top of the console has a separate metal plate where the shifter hole normally is, but on this car, it would be a flat plate with no hole. So, the entire console is not different; just that one piece.

I still vote to preserve that piece of history as-is. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif........IN fact, I'd like to document the car before it goes anywhere else or has anything else done to it. That car has a lot to offer from a research point of view. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif If you're interested, I'll send you some forms and put you to work https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Three on the tree is fun ! I had a couple of 60's C-10's with them. You found a nice car, looks like a fun ride .

Just by coincidence, there is a very similar thread going on at the Chevytalk site, and there are pics posted of the 3-spd SS console.
