The broach marks on the deck look a little heavy. I would like to hear what some other guys think... [/ QUOTE ] Yep! I'm thinking...36 grit on a belt sander. |

They looked a little heavy for me...
QX axle is a JL8 3.73 rear... Does the car have rear discs? Also get some pictures of the ends of the axle tubes up close to where the wheels... |
Re: 1969 Z-28 Camaro - Please Help
The broach marks look home made to me. The front calipers look wrong. As I recall the front JL8 is left and right specific ? As in it only has one boss for the hose to screw into. That one has two bosses, one below the other. Normally there is also a bracket and a short J shaped steel line with spring around it to keep a distance between the hot caliper and the rubber brake line.

http://www.crossroadspaper.com/69_Z2...012Cropped.jpg See the difference of the lines that run lenghtwise down the block... on the deck? On the 0329 engine they are not straight nor are they very uniform... The broach marks are very straight by virtue of the process... |
Re: 1969 Z-28 Camaro - Please Help
Thank you Gentlemen, this car is a frame off restoration cross ram, after market cross ram but absolute beautiful restoration. Also four wheel disk brakes I don't believe to be original. Orange rs white interior, white stripes, with supposedly matching numbers but no documentation. What kind of value would you put on the car today?
|
Re: 1969 Z-28 Camaro - Please Help
Too many variables to put a value on it...
No cowl tag photos... Is it a real Z? What leve l restoration? There are so many different Frame Off levels... what you consider to be Frame Off might not be what others consider to ba a frame off... There are some obvious problems with broach marks and etc... If you want to get it verified I would suggest contacting Jerry MacNeish and having the car checked over by him. http://www.z28camaro.com/ |

Re: 1969 Z-28 Camaro - Please Help
Mark thank you for your response, could you please educate me why you think these numbers are restamped? Again thank you for taking the time to assist me.

Re: 1969 Z-28 Camaro - Please Help
The broach marks errrr the 36 grit sandpaper marks on the block deck are the giveaway here as to being restamped... People typically dont grind blocks like this... what happens is when a block is milled square at a machine shop they use a cuttting head that leaves radial marks on the block... originally they were broached... there is a thread on this site that shows how large a block broach is... (about the size of a locomotive is how someone described it).
They then cover up the radial marks with either a file or sanding then restamp the numbers they want... If you pulled a head it would in all likelyhood have radial machining marks on the decks where it doesn't show... |
