Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Hey Rich,
The thought had crossed my mind. I personally plan on coming and certainly want to bring the Deuce with me if at all possible. Ed Montini (enio45) and I talked about getting a transport truck together (like Stefano and Mike G. do) and see if we can find 4 other cars in our area to make the same journey to Collinsville with us. I'll post something on a separate thread. Thanks! P.S. Your Nova gonna be there? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif |
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Here is another crayon marking on the block that I wanted to post. Would like to hear from others regarding its meaning:

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
One of the benefits of a low mile car, even if it needs to be restored, is that many of the original parts are still with the car. I am fortunate in that I had to track down relatively few parts. Here are some of the more significan items that I had to track down (both of these were reworked/restored by Jerry Macneish):

Dennis,
Those are the original valve covers and were also done by Jerry Macneish. I believe Earl went down the road, and got the original carb back from his neighbor.(Earl correct me if I'm wrong.) The original dist went in an old chevy truck, if I remember the story correctly. We did send the carb to McNeish. I hate to bring this subject up since there seems to be a pretty good battle going on about it, but on the lift bracket issue, I've seen 2 maybe 3 original deuces that had the double leg frt bracket while mine has the single. None were painted and seemed to be natural. I do wonder a little about the possibility of the frt at least being slightly silver cad plated. As Grady mentioned, it seems like there was something on them, but it didn't last long. But then maybe not. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |

I refuse to believe that, given the human factor on an assembly line and the number of different suppliers across the country, every single car that came down those lines had exactly the same parts, stampings, finishes, yadda, yadda, yadda as the car before them. There were differences! Accept it. Too many self proclaimed experts should take a closer look at the english language. They may believe they're GOOD, but they need to take note that there are TWO "O"s in that word. |

Overall the sheetmetal is in nice shape except for a few small typical spots. Trunk floor is outstanding and the floors are very nice except for a few small pin holes as seen in the last photo.....

Jason,
I suppose the car could have been a time capsule with all of the great day-two items through out. However, the car was repainted once and the underside was painted white (as cool as that was back in the day https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif ). Glad your enjoying the photos! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Door sills are in incredible condition. The Roofs were obviously careful about not letting the seat belt buckle get closed in the door. Not a ding to be found (that is a tar like substance on the sills in the photos).

I thought the white underside was part of a Yenko/Hurst conversion deal. She will look great restored.

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Hell, I get that look from the 1st lady all the time.
And it's to late. I sent the sills out for polish. |
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
That tar like substance is rubber compound from the good old McCreary Tire Factory where Earl worked once upon a time. By the way Sam and Schonye, the reverse lock out rod is still here and we also have the T-handle that we used on the shifter. It's actually the second one we bought since Earl stripped the threads on the first one.
|
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
We were just talking about ordering a rod for that. I guess if you want, you could send it out to us, or let me know quietly and we'll charge Sam double, and split it with you. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Charge Sam for the rod and you can sell it to me for even more. I need one! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif SHHH don't tell him, he will never buy ribs in St.Louis. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/drool.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
If you would Schonye, ask the sill polishers to put all that rubber compound in a little jar and mark it: "McCreary Tire Co., Indiana, PA". https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/laugh.gif

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
These slapper bars have a cool back story to them which I'll cover later on. Schonye did a great job on their restoration. They are pretty unique for Novas with rear sway bars in that they accommodate the sway bar instead of requiring it to be removed....

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Hey Dennis,
I concur https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif . There was no part # or manufactures label/marking to be found on them. Schonye says he hasn't seen these types before. I'll let you know if I unearth anything. |
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Their quality control is kinda unusual. The snubber adjustment tower is a well manufactured piece, but the mounting plates,(as you can plainly see) were hacked, and never dress ground leaving a pretty nasty looking torch cut. I had heard of these before, but these are the first I've ever seen. No name, or stamp anywhere. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
If I'd have known about them back in the day, I'd have had a set on my deuce. |
