Re: Musclecar Dealers & Low Production Factory Fre
What you need is a "Lawman" Mustang, a car with real history not just a design project. Maybe you could get Bill Goldberg to bring his out.

Ummm...the fender ornament for sure. Who wants to be seen driving around a pastel pink AMX? |
Re: Musclecar Dealers & Low Production Factory Fre
In regards to the stripeless Judge, the lady bought the car in conjunction with her son on the condition that it had to be an automatic and without stripes. He was able to put in the order without the stripes, although they added some stripes a year later. Of course it would seem logical to have a RAIII GTO and add the spoiler, but I think the story is much more interesting the way it happened.

Re: Musclecar Dealers & Low Production Factory Fre
Thanks Bruce. I like that type of article, and this thread of course ! I suddenly realized that I forgott the last page of the article about the GTO. Here it is: http://i436.photobucket.com/albums/q...ary2000009.jpg |
Re: Musclecar Dealers & Low Production Factory Fre
For those of you who aren't Pontiac-inclined, only two ducktail spoilers were installed at the factory. There were a few more that were done at dealerships, and I know of at least one promo photo of a car (a LeMans, I think - Mike will correct me if I'm wrong) with this spoiler. I don't think this orange GTO was one of the two factory cars (memory fuzzy) but it is a real one.

Diego is correct. The 72 GTO in the Musclecar Review article had its rear wing installed much later (1980's), but it is a real GM rear spoiler. I guess technically, it's not a factory freak. The ducktail spoiler is reproduced now, so you sometimes see them at car shows on a 71 or 72 Lemans/GTO.
I don't know what happened to this 66 GTO, but this was the car Pontiac used in their original 1966 ad. It's wearing 8-lug wheels, which were never available on a GTO. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbt...20-%20Copy.jpg |
Re: Musclecar Dealers & Low Production Factory Freaks
----Geez, Mike! All the years I have looked at that picture I never noticed that. I ordered that entire set of pics back in the day as well as the 65s. The GTO would have been very cool with 8-lugs, I think.......Bill S

Re: Musclecar Dealers & Low Production Factory Freaks
I read in Glory Days that Deloren wanted the 8 lugs for the GTO but the supplier could not get the wheels to the price point to make it economical.
Were the wheels on the GP 14 or 15 inch wheels? Paul |
Re: Musclecar Dealers & Low Production Factory Freaks
----All factory 8-lugs were 14s but Ive heard that someone out there is now making 15 inch rims, and I know of guys who have cobbled 15 inch rims, but not many.....Bill S

Re: Musclecar Dealers & Low Production Factory Freaks
I don't know if this would be considered a factory freak or not.... but it very well might be 1 of 1. I own a '67 Grand Prix... 400, 4 speed, 3.42 posi, 8 lugs, gauges, AM-FM w/reverb, console, headrests with MANUAL STEERING and BRAKES. The car is still wearing its original paint. I purchased the car from the original owners son. The car was special ordered as an ALL MANUAL car. I have the original order sheet and sales contract. With the exception of some Pennsylvania rust its very well preserved as it was garaged pretty much all of its life. Another oddity on this car.... being it was sold new in Pennsylvania... the parking lights are below the bumper... not in the normal '67 GP location.
excuse the dirt on the interior pic.... it was the day after I bought it and hadn't got around to cleaning it up... BTW that is the original paint http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...ta/76TA012.jpg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...a/100_1543.jpg |

----Nice Poncho!!! I had a 67 2+2 428/4spd the same color combo as your GP. 80mph felt like 50mph. What great cruisers these big Pontiacs are.......Bill S

Re: Musclecar Dealers & Low Production Factory Freaks
Thanks
My dad special ordered a brand new '67 2+2.... 428, 4 speed, 3.73 posi.... it was the 1st car that I ever rode in. |

Cool. With a 427 option citing "550 HP", that might be a side oiler. What a beast.

How about our 3 Hurst SSJs, including my brother's 1-of-1 documented green & gold 72 (bench seat with Hurst-installed Auto-Stick 1 shifter)...
White 1971 SSJ is a 74,000 mile 98% original, unrestored gem. Black 1971 SSJ is a beautifully restored 455 car with a black bucket interior. |

1971's huh? Bob A....got your ears on? |

Re: Musclecar Dealers & Low Production Factory Freaks
Very very nice Hurst SSJ cars. The '69-'72 GP bench seat cars have a glove box.... the bucket seat cars do not.... I have a '71 bench seat model.
Wish mine was an SSJ http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...ta/76TA006.jpg |

http://inlinethumb54.webshots.com/46...500x500Q85.jpg Color combos are probably a stretch for the freak definition but once in awhile you'll see the old Carolina Blue show up on something. How about on a '70 LS5 Convertible. http://inlinethumb55.webshots.com/44...500x500Q85.jpg Also saw a nice '69 Judge recently claimed to be 1 of 1 with Matador Red ext and red int. |

No one has mentioned the GSS Demons yet. Here is my 71 GSS. Not sure how many are made but I know of about 7 total '71 cars and maybe 10 '72 GSS Demons.

Beautiful Demon. Can you give us a rundown of what makes a GSS?

Grand Spaulding car...correct?
Have you contacted Bob Ashton yet? Car! |
Re: Musclecar Dealers & Low Production Factory Freaks
Not sure on Green SSJ original owner being a Packers fan, but he was a well-connected Pittsburgh-based lawyer looking for something different back in 1972. I suspect back then if you offered Hurst a little "extra", they would deviate from their standard white/gold or black/gold standard. It's also possible that Hurst was looking to improve sales by going to different colors...

Wasn't the GSS 340 Six Pack powered in 71 and single four barrel/supercharged in 72?

Dodge Demon GSS........Man they had such a cool mix of musclecars back then....Nice to see them pop up at shows in such great shape..

Re: Musclecar Dealers & Low Production Factory Freaks
GSS Demons....way cool!
|
Re: Musclecar Dealers & Low Production Factory Freaks
Thanks for the compliments guys.
What makes a GSS, well, the basics were an intake swap to the aluminum Edelbrock six pack intake with three 427 Corvette spec carbs, Milodon oil pump and some internal modifications like heavier valve springs. GSD also stuck on there home made snubber on the axle. That was probably about it for the basic package however, you could have any modification you wanted to pay for. I will try to link an advertisement. I've seen GSS Demons that were very plain, flat hood, bench seat, poverty cap wheel cars and others that were loaded. In 72, the 340 GSS was advertised as a Paxton supercharged car but I know of 4 72 GSS Demons that came with the six pack induction. Mr. Norm would sell what the customer wanted. My car has an Auto Meter tach strapped to the steering column. It is written in the paperwork when the car was ordered new. The customer didn't want the factory tach. Mine has been there since new. I some day want to properly restore this car when time and $$ allow but for now, I drive it a little every summer with my two little girls and let them enjoy the feel and sound of a high revving 340 with 410 gears. |
