Congrats Charley.
James Garner was a huge endorser of DANA,which means in accordance with Southern Cal. law,you now have to perform a "Rockford" with this car & post it on youtube.

1967Z28 07-27-2017 03:17 AM

Charley, was the rear spoiler factory installed or added later?

Charley Lillard 07-27-2017 03:19 AM

Added later.

1967Z28 07-27-2017 03:22 AM

Thanks. It's pretty rare to see it on the early '68s with the 302 fender emblems.

427freak 07-27-2017 03:56 AM

NICE find!! I love it.

I had this photo in my files for several years. Not sure if it was one of the ones mentioned.

Well, this made my morning. Always good to see one saved, especially with docs and so many original parts.

X66 714 07-27-2017 01:10 PM

Very nice...Joe

Congratulations Charlie! :burnout:

Turbo70Camaro 07-27-2017 01:51 PM

What a score good job on the photo documentation too.

Billohio 07-27-2017 02:21 PM

Neat car and love the color. Its in good hands

ZAPPER68 07-27-2017 02:26 PM

Fantastic ... thanks for the pictorial, it's great for comparison purposes.

westonz28rs 07-27-2017 03:05 PM

Nice find. Just 2511 cars before mine was built. Love all the paper work you got with the Camaro.

firstgenaddict 07-27-2017 03:14 PM

Really great score Charlie.... wow what an awesome find and really would clean up quite nicely with the exception of the paint...

damn looking at it I would be tempted to try and remove the top layer of paint if it were done in enamel.
I may try the front lower valence first... or a lower fender corner...

The reason I say this is the prep looks to be not very good and thus the problem areas will probably release well... around door handles creases etc.

Charley Lillard 07-27-2017 03:18 PM

Hood has been changed so the paint would be a bitch. Enough other stuff in body that I think I might just steam clean and then repaint.

Tenney 07-27-2017 03:43 PM

Nice add, Charley - too darn cool!!

Lee Stewart 07-27-2017 03:47 PM

Here you go Charlie . . . sort of what it will look like when it's finished:

Great find, that car was certainly orange from the factory. I'm glad that NCRS could provide origin info on the car.

Charley Lillard 07-27-2017 05:12 PM

The Warranty booklet with Protecto plate and other paper also showed Dana but it was nice to confirm with the NCRS stuff.

firstgenaddict 07-27-2017 05:25 PM

The orders received confirmation report is golden.

bcmiller 07-27-2017 06:34 PM

I believe the color first became available around 1950. Used on a lot of trucks.

danachevroletfor1967 07-27-2017 06:38 PM

Great car Charley. I am still holding out for finding, and being able to afford, something similar.

Stefano 07-27-2017 06:58 PM

Kool Dana Camaro!

mike1971 07-27-2017 08:17 PM

Nice Score Charley!

black69 07-27-2017 09:00 PM

that is going to be a killer looking car when done! I think I like that color better than the hugger orange actually. Kevin's 427 car has always been one of my favorites, now I got to add these rare Zs...

NovaMob03 07-27-2017 09:11 PM

That's a neat find for sure. The CL / eBay links are a nice addition to the site & we should all appreciate the members who spend their time doing this imo

So, what are you gonna do about the rolled rear fender lips? Fix 'em when you repaint it?
I've had 2 CA cars with em rolled and although I wish they hadn't been, it also seems like it's part of a car's DNA & heritage, so to speak

bcmiller 07-27-2017 10:09 PM

Leave the rear wheel areas as is, in my opinion.

I would try hard to see if any original paint can be saved.

I've always used a small crescent wrench. Just snug it up and bend down into place. Scoot over a 1/2 an inch, repeat. Might have to go back in a couple places, but you should be able to get it close to perfect.

Even though, the Dana hoods are flimsy, that one for sale would have looked good.

I'm not sure how that Dana hood would look with stripes. Steam cleaned under the car today. I forgot just how messy that always is. Probably spent a hour under it steam cleaning. Kept smelling gas and just figured it was fumes from the gas tank etc. Finally see gas pouring out a hole in fuel line. I have no idea how much leaked out. As I'm cutting the tubing so I can slip some rubber line over it the gas is running down my arm into my arm pit, into my shoes etc. That gas burns !!!

Clean floors, looks like a lifelong CA car alright.

mockingbird812 07-28-2017 02:01 AM

Great find Charley. Congrats!!

firstgenaddict 07-28-2017 05:10 AM

Excellent...

169indy 07-28-2017 05:23 AM

Good Job. Charley Is this the Car that was in Oregon? I spoke to a seller that was listing it for his friend, If I remember correctly. I was struggling getting a bead on values as I was neg with a co-worker who has given up on His restoration of his Uncles LOS 12D 1968 Z28. (Which I did purchase).
Great Car. The 68s need some Love at times,,,,,,

Jim

Charley Lillard 07-28-2017 01:20 PM

Yes this is that car. The guy that had it for the last 30 years bought it just for the engine because he had bought back his other 68 Z28 for 500.00 minus engine. He had lost his other Z in a divorce and somehow the engine for it got removed and the car had been seized and sold at auction. He never got around to yanking the engine and thru the years realized he should leave the engine in this car. I think now that he sold this car he and his Son are going to restore his other Z. Nice guy. It wasn't cheap if you compare it to what you can buy a restored 68Z for but it's a special car that needs to be saved. I was delighted at just how solid this car is.

enio45 07-28-2017 01:42 PM

nice solid car charlie - good luck with it!!
