And you are talking about the same car at the start of this thread, correct?

Interesting car and details with original paint. I am taking notes and will make sure it gets logged for CRG database.

I could be wrong but I think it is British Racing Green. Special paint note seems to be for stripe delete. But it is not fully clear to me.

Sorry for the delay on getting back with this post. I want to first thank Steve for letting DRCE500/Tom and I discuss the history of the Z28. Tom and I have had multiple conversations over the last couple of days about 68 Z28. I found out that the owner I bought the Z from promised Tom the first fight right of refusal when he was ready to sell the car. Tom having the same passion for the car that I do, I completely understanding why he was upset and hurt when he saw that I bought the car. I have made the same promise to Tom, he will have the first right of refusal when I sell the car.
Tom and I met in person today and had a long conversation about the car. To my surprise, Tom had the original POP for the car and was excited about reuniting it with the car. Now the car has the window sticker, order invoice, delivery invoice, original insurance card and POP! Other things Tom and I have determined; The car also came with the original exhaust manifolds and smog. We are unsure at this time if the engine is original to the car or a re-stamp with all original components.
It was wonderful getting to know Tom, he is a great car guy who had a reason to have been upset by his long time friend broke a promise...

Thank you Tom!

Tom's situation reminded me of something that happened to me. A friend called me up many years ago and asked me if I could loan him $1500 to get a rallye green '68 Z minus engine and trans. The car was pretty nice other than missing the drivetrain. I had the money earmarked for something else but wanted to help him get back into a Camaro. I didn't have a place to keep it so instead of me buying it and parking it until he paid me for it, I let him keep it and said if he ever sold it I had right of first refusal. Yep, I was young and stupid. Next time I saw him, the car was gone and I never got my money. It still sucks pretty bad thinking about it all these years later.

I'm guessing most of us have had a similar over the years. Recently I learned that a very special car was sold that I thought I would have first opportunity IF it ever was offered for sale.

Very happy that this has been worked out, and very much looking forward to seeing it next month!!

My father (RIP) always told me one of the quickest ways to lose a friend was to lend them money. And that if you couldn’t afford to GIVE it to them, don’t LEND it to them. Now, I know that isn’t 100% true 100% of the time, but more often than not, he was right.
“Lend money=Lose friends”.

Glad you got this worked out. I'm sure you'll keep digging to determine "the rest of the story".

GGGRRRR... unfortunately, this brings back a, still smoldering, screwing I got in 1998 too. I sold my rare 1982 Kawasaki 1100 Spectre, that I bought new to a "friend" cheap, so he had a bike to drive until he found the Harley he wanted with the understanding it only came back to me. He found out he could get 3 times the price of what I sold it to him for and I never saw it again. Seems many of us have had something similar when dealing with cars and motorcycles over a lifetime.

RPOLS3 10-20-2021 02:30 PM

Nice find - glad it all worked out.

touspude 10-20-2021 03:17 PM

Everything about it looks great!

Pro Stock John 10-20-2021 03:31 PM

Tom sounds like a heckuva guy to reunite the POP with the car.

bcmiller 10-20-2021 06:28 PM

Congrats on the car.

Seems a bit odd that there are no instructions for stripe delete on the order form.

SPEEDYB 10-20-2021 10:52 PM

It is a great car

I met Charlie today, he is the original owner of my 68 Z. He gave me some baby pictures.

bcmiller 10-28-2021 07:56 PM

What year are the pics? Already had a cowl hood by then.

HuggerSS 10-28-2021 09:45 PM

The pictures are from 1970. I was lucky the original owner carefully saved the original hood.

cook_dw 10-29-2021 12:16 PM

Congrats on the car. Is the cowl area under the panel painted white? My apologizes if this was covered previously and I overlooked it.

HuggerSS 10-29-2021 12:26 PM

Yes, under the cowl area is painted white.

That's great! I know a guy who lost a lot of points because the cowl hood was too early for the car.

:rolleyes2:

Note the original white paint in the cowl area.

cook_dw 10-29-2021 07:28 PM

Wonder if that has a tie to no callouts in the paperwork and the trim tag not calling out special paint.?. Also would you mind to get a photo of the core support showing the radiator side near the battery? Thanks!

1967Z28 10-29-2021 07:37 PM

Wiper linkage is black, correct?

HuggerSS 10-29-2021 07:53 PM

The call out for the special paint/delete stripes is only listed on the bottom of the window sticker. It is not mentioned on either invoice. The original owner ordered it with out the stripes.

The black on the windshield wiper arms may be faded, but it looks to me like it may be gray phosphate. I will take a better look when I have a chance. And get back to you.

Is the hood latch lever phosphate all the way to the end or is it painted about half way down? Sorry for all the questions just wanna collect data points.

HuggerSS 10-29-2021 10:17 PM

The entire hood latch lever is gray phosphate.

HuggerSS 10-30-2021 04:29 PM

I just talked with the original owner to clarify the discrepancy with the names on the order invoice and the delivery invoice. The original owner borrowed the money from his aunt who went with him to put a deposit on the car. His aunt’s name as well as his name appears on the order sheet.
After the car came in, he put the car in his mothers name for insurance purposes. His mother name is on the delivery invoice, POP and the original insurance card.

It is great when you can call the original owner after 53 years to fill in all of the blanks!

Pro Stock John 10-31-2021 01:44 AM

Would love more history on the car, it was raced early in life?

HuggerSS 10-31-2021 02:20 AM

The car was weekend raced 1968-1971. The original owner kept everything, including all of his time slips and pit passes. In 4 years he went to the track 7 times and made 18 passes. His best time was in 1970 at 12.35.

Pro Stock John 10-31-2021 02:45 AM

Very cool, and a stout ET too.

It would have been noted on the order form (vs the order write-up sheet).
Notice that the color and the interior is not noted either on either existing sheets.

HuggerSS 10-31-2021 06:12 AM

Kurt, the custom interior is noted, but not that it is black deluxe. Do you have any idea why the color or stripe deletion was not noted on the order form?
Any clarification would be great....
