Re: My '65 A/FX Chevelle
Hi Tom,
Thanks for the invite. I'll see what happens next year. I'm personally trying to get my 70 cuda fast enough to make a run for qualifying for Indy next year in Superstock(watched this year and got the bug again), but if that doesn't work out your show looks great.(THANKS AGAIN) Budnate, I'll take some photos of the straight axle set up. Give me a little time. Talk to yah later, Alex |

Hey, bring that bad boy to SCR10. Even though I may put a BBC back in my car, like it was raced, I am afraid you are out of my league. It's been as quick as 8.70 back in 1967 at Cordova(60% nitro)and was one of the first cars in the 10's in it's original configuration. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/222...oryostrich.jpg https://www.yenko.net/attachments/222763-ostrichafx.jpg [/ QUOTE ] I can hear the "Cackle" and Smell the Nitro from the Exhaust just looking at that Picture........Wow!!.......You guy's that are too young to remember these cars missed a real piece of "Racing" history........ https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif Ken https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif |

Tom's car might get a big block.....but I get to tune it https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif
Wouldn't it be great to get 5 or 6 of these together! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/drool.gif If I leave mine close to as is (Budnate's suggestion)I won't be doing any full runs. I just don't know how much to redo. I do agree with Bud once you start just where do you stop? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |

That car is soooo cool 65 is my favorite year Chevelle, Malcolm Durham and Dickie Harrell both built their own type of "Thunderbolt" 64 Chevelles, Malcolm made his 64 into a 65, Harrell changed to a Nova and retired the Chevelle. Leave it to Tom and Rob to get something else cool. Great job guys! [/ QUOTE ] Malcolm's Chevelle, with dropped front axle supported by leaf springs. Note that the car still retains it's stainless trim, emblems, grille, etc. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/222901-AFX-1.JPG |

Re: My '65 A/FX Chevelle
Man you just gotta love them old Nostalgia Gassers! and if it happens to have the modified wheel bases then thats even cooler! I wish they had more of the around putting on shows! Also the old front engine dragsters.I always wanted to own a front engine dragster,I think they are the cooles dragsters ever built.I could watch them run all day!Keep them cool pictures coming.I am drooling so much I had to put a towel down to keep from shorting out the keyboard. And to the owner of the Mopar altered wheelbase Car that baby is WAY WAY COOL! I love chevys but I also love the MOPARS,OLD Fords,OLD Pontiacs,But especially Chevies and Mopars! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

Re: My '65 A/FX Chevelle
Bobby, you are right, they are very cool. If you ever get the chance, be sure and attend the York US30 show in York, PA. There are always several old Gassers there. In fact, around 170 of the coolest cars in the world. Darwin is kind enough to allow the sYc to show our cars amongst all the other Gassers, rails, funnycars, etc.
As per FE dragsters, cool to say the least, but having looked inside several, not for sure if that is for me. Sitting on the RE/trans.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif A person would need really big ones to drive one of those. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif |
Re: My '65 A/FX Chevelle
I think we should move this thread and create a new Forum for factory drags cars , S/S, A/FX , Gassers etc so there is a dedicated place to discuss these early creatures ! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: My '65 A/FX Chevelle

Bruce told me he found this car at about the same time he found one of his funnycars. He could not afford to restore both, so he let Big Daddy have the Chevelle. He wishes he had been able to keep the Chevelle.

I must admit that I usually group stuff like gassers, awb, 2% cars, f/x cars, ss/s, etc... all together. To me it was more of a time period thing, I don't think the sanctioning bodies were consistent with their nomenclature either. In reading the SS-Drag Racing the F/Sedan book, it sounds like these classifications were changed at will sometimes https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif Bottom line, why does it matter?
