Two I recall are a 61 348 Tri Power 4 speed Impala SS and a 66 Chevelle SS, factory black L78 car. The drive train out of the 61 is still knocking around somewhere.

How sure are you that the Masciarelli hemi verts are two different cars? I was told it's the same car with different cosmetics (top, paint) when I made the same assumption as you.

It was also raced as the Mountain Mopar

Either way, now restored and reside in multi-million dollar collection.

I'm guilty too...turned my '69 442 Post into a Stock car back in the 80's.
Haven't seen it in years but what's left of it's still out back of buddy's farm, original rear & swaybar also Vin & Cowl tags still affixed.

All those stripped-out track cars and modified street machines in the old days are why we have $5000 air cleaners and $400 valve stem caps today. Think about it. Today's "unobtanium" was often just parts we removed on Day 2 and threw into dumpsters.

Exactly and attrition. Wrecks, things like that made them what they are today.

Looks more like a 4 Dr Sedan, 300 emblem ......wow, even then 4 door stock cars were made to look like racing coupes. ..... NASCAR history ?

as a kid, pre-teen I had to walk over and ON Dad's discarded Corvette Fuel injection units, air cleaners , even the aluminum louvered air cleaners.....to walk through the basement not to mention the garage.....geez..

Once we took one of Dad's hoods,, a '58 Corvette louvered hood, split the skin off the frame and Made Us A 'Sled' for the driveway winters and hillside !!! The louvers, I think slowed us down as the '55 Chevy Hoods 'were faster' yet hurt like hell when they ran us over......Duh..

On a similar note, how many 302's ended up in USAC sprint cars (the class with the 5.0L limit)?

Here's a pic of the original engine for my Z, circa 1974. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...airgrounds.jpg

The Malibu looks like it was a 4 door sedan. The '61 is pretty cool.
Chad

Oops... someone already said it was a more door.
