Never seen that happen.I had some friends who also had them.I liked that you could take a look at the valvetrain very easily.Of course you don't want to over tighten them.I used studs with a wing type washer that is used on stock BBCs to distribute the load.

I remember seeing them slightly discolored, streaked or stained inside on friends race cars many years ago. Might have been due to the brand of oil they were using. No way of knowing why for sure. They were still mostly transparent and not cloudy though.

These have been for sale for a while. IIRC the bbc covers were $600 but I could be mis-remembering..

I'd like to have a set. I was always worried about them becoming too dirty or stained to see through, or cracking.

I have seen a few set over the years. I do recall them turning yellowish/brown from dirty oil like the BBc ones in the picture 2 posts above. BUT now in saying that, I think today's synthetic oil would be better then the dyno-oil of years gone by, and therefore might be less likely to discolor. Also, these cars don't get the mileage and probably more oil change to help that too.

I would pay 300 for a set of BBc.

Would also look for the clear distributor caps too.

Mr. Gasket still makes the clear caps.

How well do the clear valve covers hold up against cracking around the bolt holes?

Very poorly if you over torque them. You just snug them up. They say torque 3#. I do them by hand with the wing nut style fasteners. I also use the thicker valve cover gaskets and some homemade deflector plates. They didn't make these plates back in the 70s. Nice design. I never had any problems with fogging or yellowing. Guys like us always keep our oil clean anyway. So it should not be a problem.

You could also make up some fitted bushings that are just a little thinner then the plastic flange and would bottom out on some jam nuts and would not put any strain on the plastic flange.

This company has it all figured out. Expensive? Great. I love it when I'm only one who has them. ;)
