Character Sheriff J.W. Higgins,(played by Joe Higgins),made his first appearance in a Dodge car commercial in the fall of 1969,and is who the Sheriff J.W. Pepper character was modeled after in the 1973 James Bond movie,Live and Let Die.
He is also who Jackie Gleason modeled his character after,(Buford T. Justice),later on in the movie Smokey & The Bandit.

I believe these are Joey Chitwood stunt drivers doing a Chevy Promo piece.They were known for signature maneuvers such as these.Notice though,that the Corvair was at the back,just in case the swing-axle demons should rear it's ugly head! :)
