the metal tag comment jogged a brain cell loose...what ever happened to the car Discovered out in Oregone last year...it was thought to not be correct but then some paper was found on the car..right???

who has that car and any word on the progress ????

The Nova that was in Oregon now belongs to a person in Chicago. The "Built By / Dick Harrell" tags on my car were metal located on the left front lower part of the hood and one on the flat part of the console above the shifter. I agree that on the valve covers they started with the metal tags as shown in the picture of the 1968 issue of PHR, but when I received mine from DHPC on November 11, 1968, it had the foil stickers, one on each valve cover, one on the air cleaner, and another mounted on the firewall shelf above the brake booster. This last one mentioned was different from the other three, that being black like the others, but had a foil space made with-in the black and a serial number inscribed with what looked like a pencil making a permanant indentation. I still have all the originals. The one with the serial number had a number of which because of age it is not really legible anymore. There is a 25 that can be made out, I am pretty sure there was one other number preceeding this, thinking it was a 3? I am sure Dave knows more about this than I, but I do know this is the way mine come. Like Dave mentioned, I can see where metal to metal would create a problem, where heat was involved.

Steve Sandlin's DH Camaro also has the foil decals. On one valve cover was one that was nothing more than a business card like tag the name and address of Dick Harrell. The other valve cover had the area that was blank for the serial number but was also not legible.

Ray is correct. His car did come as he described.
Ray will tell you his car was not completed when he came to
pick it up... point being it was not left over from the
mag article.
The pictures (posted at the first of this thread) were taken
at least 2 months and more likely 3 or 4 months before the magazine "hit the stands" during that time many procedures
were changed..... including what has been discussed here.

There is a simple explanation about Steves Chevelle also.
After Joe S. got the car and I got in contact with him on the phone one of the things I told him was about that car coming back to the shop for some work on the carbs. I told Joe that I was sure that the floats were reset and new needles and seats were installed. When he heard that he then told me that the shop ticket for that was included in the docs he got with the car and was amazed that I was able to recall that. In any event on that car the metal tags had fallen off the valve covers and were replaced with the foil ones at that time.
I hope this will satisfy those unasked questions??
It makes my head hurt trying to recall stuff like this.....

I think this should more than cover this subject?
