Great job Dave. BTW, I like your measurement techniques. What is the calibration cycle for that appendage?

Re: 1949 Chevrolet 3100 - V8 Prototype
It's actually Red Oak like the bed, but yeah, looks pretty light, Mike.
Sam, I use exactoodinal longeristics when I measurcate. So far, the results have been mortarific! More this weekend..... Cheers Dave |
Re: 1949 Chevrolet 3100 - V8 Prototype
Of course since I had planned on getting the truck finished last week before I headed out on a trip, it didn't get done. But isn't that par for the course with anything classic automotive related? The exhaust took 2 days instead of 3hrs like planned (parts, installer got sick), but no matter. It's on and love it! I ran the head pipes down to a "Y" pipe, then a single 2" pipe out the back through the stock cannister style muffler in the original hanger mounting spot. I exited the pipe out just forward of the bumper below the rear valance. So with that out of the way, I'll start staining the wood, wrapping the harness under the truck, and take care of the loose ends here and there. The out comes the wetsander and buffer! More to come this weekend!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5974-image.jpg

Re: 1949 Chevrolet 3100 - V8 Prototype
Alllllllrighty.......it's been a busy last few weeks, and I'm happy to say other than a few backordered items (radio knobs, cowl vent knobs, battery tray hold down, and two hood side ornaments....and a few engine bay grommets I still need to size) the truck is DONE!!!! From start to finish, this was a 1yr build. I did 100% of everything except the exhaust. And that included mounting the tires with tubes! Paint, rust repair, stitches to my calf (general purpose solvent makes an excellent sterilizer!), balm application to a nasty weld burn, and of course, tool extraction from.....well...just know it's out! Soooo, now it's onto test driving! I've done a little around the complex and so far no overheating, the 700R4 shifts in all gears, and the brakes work excellent with the big disks up front. This truck turned out 100% how I envisioned it (scary!) and I'm ready to start driving it and have some fun, er, fix stuff that starts breaking. I think my wife is pretty much tired of having LMC catalogs in every bathroom, table, the couch, the fridge, and I think possibly one got in the pantry somehow!!?!? I hope it was entertaining for you guys. Since it's not a 426 Yenko DOHC Hemi Side Oiled Cammer, I tried to make it a fun read just to break up the seriousness that some guys make this hobby out to be. After all, in the end, it's all FUN!!!! Cheers!!!! Dave |

I missed the Dallas Autorama, but here we are at the San Antonio Autorama! I had to park in Houston and walk over since it's spring break. In the word of Fonzie...Downtown is "packed-amundo!"

Re: 1949 Chevrolet 3100 - V8 Prototype
That's a great picture! It was a fun show and I meet a lot of great people. Even convinced a few to come to the Houston show! And I nabbed Best In Show/First Place! I'm crazy pumped, man! On the way home I pulled in to get gas and about half of the truckers parked in the back came out to see it. Fun stuff! Now, no more delays, and onto the Bee for next year's MCACN showing! Thread to come!

Re: 1949 Chevrolet 3100 - V8 Prototype
Thanks Guys! I appreciate the cheers! I'm taking it to the local cruise in opening night next week, so that should be fun. Seems these old trucks always bring out the stories in people
Now I have a Bee that needs quarters, floors, and a rear crossmember....a Challenger that needs transmission work.....a Vette that needs a headlight switch (and an LS....I'm just sayin' )....and I'm sure there's something else carwise that needs something that I don't know of! Cheers |
