Ok here is the back story. The book research yielded what I call the "X" files.

These are stories that I confirmed and are off color or are a bit uncomfortable to tell-- but true none the less.

The Moonshine connection to Norwood goes back to the need to control contraband introduced to the workplace by employees.

The cushion room is where the seat assemblies were built and is the element that the women largely gravitated to when seniority factored in.

In the early 1960's a rift developed between the guards and the women on the line as the women were accusing the guards of harassment due to the very public searches performed of the women's person hygiene materials all in front of other male employees.

The union made this practice a bargaining issue and got GM to agree that if women identified and announced that an item or package was for "personal hygiene" a further search was prohibited.

Listerine mouthwash was technically for "personal hygiene" and Moonshine had a neutral odor so for employees that needed a drink the cushionroom became the speakeasy of the plant.

Bottles of Listerine everyplace there all filled with moonshine or corn Whiskey

The selection years later of Snuffy Smith as the plant mascot by the GMAD management team was an basic acknowledgement that little could be done to control alcohol consumption on the assembly line.

So there you go -- the tradition is to drink Moonshine as a homage to the employees of the plant lives on today.

All the while complaining that MANAGEMENT was the problem!

Corporate GREED closed Norwood in my opinion. Without union jobs there would be no middle class. Norwood was a GM icon, just my opinion.

I think there is plenty of blame to go around Bugsy. What I know for sure is that there were many really good people busting there tails - both salary and hourly. I hate to hear stories glorifying the 10% that were screw ups. I worked hourly and salary - so I saw many labor fakers on both sides.

I can't find a pic of the emblem but Stielow had it 3D printed out of Stainless to mimic a old emblem. Did find a cool pic of when he was giving it the car a good shakedown.
