Kenny
COPO 9566 used the 14" SS wheel
and COPO 9562 used the 15" Rally that I think was part of 9737 sports car conversion.
on 15" cars both of those COPO codes were on the BS lower left

Thank you. That clears it up.

Zoomin69 02-25-2020 02:57 PM

The SS wheels were standard with this COPO Chevelle.

As for what its worth ………… original, restored or otherwise …. its an old Muscle Car and its worth what someone is willing to pay for it :) God Bless you all :)

Don't put 100% trust in a Canadian documented car. That only documents that particular VIN,not the actually vehicle that is attached to it today.

Isn’t that true of any docs?

Jason

Mr70 02-25-2020 04:43 PM

Absolutely, which is why one type of document shouldn't be held higher among the rest.

On that note, you should also pay the fee to order yourself a new report. GM Canada Vintage Vehicle Services now puts their corporate seal on documentation, but older Canadian documentation is as easy to forge as any other document.

Sometimes it's nice to find a unrestored, unmolested original car with known history that hasn't been passed around endlessly over the past 50 years.

the427king 02-25-2020 06:48 PM

That's very true imo, but a friend always said hed rather have a car w alot of owners because when they own it a short time they usually take care of the car and dont neglect it,and usually they've paid good money for it ..people that own cars for 30 40 50 years always let then sit unattended for most of the time and they are not usually running and are full of mice and mold etc, mostly because the original owner doesnt have alot invested in it ...kind of makes sense

chevmal 02-25-2020 07:14 PM

I'm just saying that with a original car with known history, You don't have to worry about it being rebodied, restamped vin. numbers or any previous damage from wrecks or rust. etc.

This is absolutely true 99% of the time...

Glad I’m a 1%’er..:burnout:

I disagree. Even people that own their cars for 50 years take care of them. No mice, dogs or racoons in here. Ha!

chevmal 02-25-2020 10:08 PM

There you go, A few gallons of bondo and enough china body panels to make that American car technically a Foreign car.:haha:

I wonder if they found a build sheet in it

Woj 02-26-2020 10:37 AM

I see the car has had quite a few components removed in the photos, I hope the owner is documenting what he has removed (component dates, numbers and markings). The finish on the car looks pretty good at this point. Hopefully the trim that has been removed will be replaced with GM parts. It would be a shame if any repop trim went back on. Nice looking car.

Phil Woj

PS. Very doubtful there is a build sheet, but there is always a chance. There is a good likelihood of a computer card or two in the upholstery.

bergy 02-26-2020 12:54 PM

IMO - all cars rest on 3 legs:

- factory/dealer paperwork

- ownership history with contact info

-certification of options and originality (including body & drive train stampings)

the more, the better!!

Zedder 02-26-2020 12:55 PM

The pics are posted under the "COPO Cars" Facebook page. More are there than what is shown above. Looks like a super clean car to me!

Tracker1 02-26-2020 01:33 PM

Looks like the best 40K that guy ever spent. :) Great stuff. Kudos.

SuperNovaSS 02-26-2020 02:47 PM

Looks sweet to me. Where is all the rust and restoration needed that was mentioned earlier?

Jason

Charley Lillard 02-26-2020 03:19 PM

If it really was appraised at 40K I would love to know the name of the appraiser.

Chevyfever 02-26-2020 04:02 PM

Charley, as I understand the buyer has wanted this car for years.
There was a family member that refused to pay the $40,000 and he sold
it to buyer .Don't know if there was an appraiser involved,I knew that
car was taken care of by original owner.

I think it would be a shame if anything but the original trim went back on this car. Swapping any trim for better or NOS GM parts would take away from this car.

Craig_Maiorana 02-26-2020 05:23 PM

This thing is amazing. Reminds me of Dennis Cumbys car. Obviously D's is a 70 but for sure the same flavor.

Very nice .. I just hope all of the right things happen with this car for all of the right reasons.

1903USMCUnertl 02-26-2020 07:33 PM

Cool car..and a great find...my guess the value of $225k probably has A LOT to do with PGN. Looked at a '70 LS6 he inspected which at best is a $20-25k car..rough as a cobb and no paperwork.. he told the owner it is a $50k + car...needless to say the owner believes the "internet guru," and thinks he has a $50k car and won't listen to actual real world offers.

Sadly it makes buying stuff for realistic value hard when an "internet" guru over values...and then has no intention of paying said value...I often see the same thing in US/German WW2 weapons...some "guru" says a piece is worth "X" but never actually produces "X" to buy the item...just muddies the water for the actual legit potential buyers.

the427king 02-26-2020 09:20 PM

Agreed, had this been an ebay or craigslist ad with contact info the seller would have had people that weren't in a position to buy telling him it's worth 500k just so noone would get a deal on it ,and people wanting the car would be telling him how it would be in a shrine if they bought it and how they weren't buying for resale in hopes that would sway the buyer....being the person that actually gets the car is tricky and usually it just ends up not getting sold because the seller is overwhelmed with all the attention and BS

was that the black one with white stripes? I saw it on ebay for 50K and thought that was a bit of a stretch

the one he did a video on? atleast that one had its engine and what not the black one I believe had a warranty block and was real rough

1903USMCUnertl 02-27-2020 01:17 AM

yes that is the one...car is real...but also missing a lot of dated stuff and needing a lot of body work...plus no docs...had a BS, but sadly sheet was destroyed by water and being left on the car..nothing left..

Tracker1 04-30-2023 08:53 PM

cook_dw 05-01-2023 02:46 PM

So did this car ever sell or did the one person still have it? By the looks of the video compared to the older photos that the same guy owns it? Car looks great.

Bill Pritchard 05-01-2023 07:47 PM

We may never find out, Darrell. You can bet that anyone who posted here 3 yrs ago with supposed direct knowledge of the black COPO Chevelle will not be posting any updates about it.

Hawkeye 05-02-2023 10:20 PM

COPO Chevelle

I was planning on doing a write up in the Member’s Ride forum to share an update, history as I know it and some photos. Please be patient as I am still gathering some additional information. I’ve made friends with 2 people that knew the original owner and his brother very well. They’ve shared some great insight on the brothers and potentially a vintage photo might surface soon too.
The posted video was taken by the previous owner in June of 2020. I purchased the car in July of 2020. Stay tuned!
Thanks,
Marty
