What are folks spending for a full resto on cars like this these days, taking the body down to bare metal etc., 30k for paint and body?

John...strip, straighten and painting the red 67 L78 was quoted at $25k-$30k with no rust repair 2 years ago by a couple of restorers on this site. I assume prices are still in that range.

Clearly.. I read it. And I just read you could buy it for $48k. And I simply asked for the guys contact info if you were gonna pass. No need for a dickhead response.

I believe he was referring to the thread regarding the red L78 that he can buy. If I recall the current owner is dragging his feet on selling. Perhaps there was some misunderstanding on both parts. Or I’m completely off base. 🤷🏻*♂️:dunno:

Thanks Hawkeye...yes, we obviously read each other's comments with a different point of view, but that's OK.

For those following along on the other thread...after 16 years the owner "appears" to finally be serious about letting it go. He is insisting on painting the car himself to get a little more money out of it and I have agreed to his ask. Now, he needs to get it done. He is newly divorced and remarried, so I think the money is more critical to him now. I've offered a deposit a number of times, but he has always said that it wasn't necessary.

Everything was fine and dandy until the snarky comment. But no worries as it’s all good.. And yes I have followed along with that thread like many others. But when you come into this thread and say “I can buy the car for $48k” it makes it sound like you can but you haven’t or decided against it. Hence me asking “and you haven’t?” With then saying “send me the guys info as I know someone that would be interested..” Hopefully you get it. Just don’t do anything foolish like get rid of any of what’s left on the car thats original.. Especially that interior. Good luck:biggthumpup:

I certainly didn't read your comments with that tone, but it doesn't really matter. We'll chalk it up to typing vs talking.

If I get the L78, it will be going to my friend Paul's shop where my SS is right now getting a little tune-up. We'll go through it mechanically, probably paint it if the current owner doesn't get that done, and slap a set of Cragars on it and it will be the perfect cruise night car. No other fluffing is really necessary with that one and having an underside that can get a stone chip or two is exactly what I want.

Yeah restoring a car like the one this post about is a labor of love, because between the restoration of the car inside and out and sourcing a driveline the owner would be upside down. Then again I know guys here and there sitting on a lot of parts. I have a buddy in MI who's selling of his dad's lifetime of collecting, I'll let you guys know if one of the BBs is from a Camaro or Chevelle, There are some mid 60's Vette 427s there.

Wish I still had my '69 Z/28, one repaint, and had 50K miles.

Looks like a nice one John!

Only the second LeMans Blue Z’s I have seen with black stripes. Was that how it came?

I don't know to be honest. Was 22 years ago. I bought it thru a buddy he said a member of the Dean Foods family had been owner, and this was one of a few cars that got sold.
