Hi there NorCam!! I'll see if I can dig up some info on Louis from some ole drag drace buddies in the West End of Montreal. I thought his car was sold to a Paul Gougeon who ran a radiator shop in Montreal. John Armstrong I remember from Napes and Sanair as a wicked l'il Opel exited his closed trailer with a winch setup. The Opel was a very high pitched engine and ran unbelievable. Set a few records. Loved the L'il car som much I went out and bought Ron Brunet's Fibreglass Opel and still have the beast. Ron Brunet is the owner of Napierville. Lottsa good ex drag racers still around.
I will see what I can dig up on Louis' car(s).. Ted |
I think that Opel GT belongs to John's brother Alan. John runs a 69 corvette in SS/AA and had a killer 1969 camaro in Super B for many years.

Hello Norcam!
I love this thread- been away for a few weeks and really like the progress! What stoke did you decide on for the hotter street motor? Cubic inches? Great info on the M/T Super Scavengers- I had a few sets repro'd by GS Buick Club in 80's- early 90's. They sound like Nothing Else- uncorked with a big cam!! They were chromed back then, wish I hung on to a set. The orange coating looks really tough. I like white headers too for a vintage look. Wasn't there a brand of headers that were gold back in 70's?? Great thread and thanks for all the effort sharing this build- great amounts of knowledge here- no matter what direction a guy is thinking on his own build. Very Cool. Jerry |
This folks......................header porn!

Was thinking 396" small block but ended up going 3.750 stroke and 5.7" rods for a bulletproof 383. Motor will still be a few weeks and headers are off being ceramic coated right now. I have a couple other projects to work on in the interim but should be back on this soon.

Header Porn
Here are the finished headers from Nathan Schmitt at Sweet Ave. Fabrication. Killer design, made to fit the chassis and fit the way they should, and designed to have that sound that is second to none. M/T Style Scavengers for Big Block or Small Block builds and finished in Ceramic Coat colors. I am very impressed!!! http://image.ibb.co/fi4xAS/IMG_8980.jpg http://image.ibb.co/gesdH7/IMG_8981.jpg http://image.ibb.co/iGMAVS/IMG_8982.jpg http://image.ibb.co/nbeVVS/IMG_8983.jpg http://image.ibb.co/dSPfVS/IMG_8984.jpg http://image.ibb.co/nriDjn/IMG_8985.jpg |
That's pretty cool Graeme.

Beautimus! Love his work. You’ll love the sound!!! What is your coating Graeme?
|
Those were Ceramic Coated through Nate. He uses that header outfit in Minneapolis that specializes in Ceramics.

Got anymore pics of that blue Chevelle? Wondering what wheels are on it?

Hello Graeme , Amazing looking Build. May I ask a few details on your front Rim/Tire combo? What size are the cragar front runners and the back space of them? Did you need a spacer to clear brake caliper? Also the tire brand and size? Thanks, ROB
|
Hello Rob
Fronts are 15" x 4" Direct Bolt Cragar's with 5.60.15 Pro Tracs which measure 25.8" tall and have a 4" tread pattern with 5.9" section width. I'm not sure the backspace on the fronts but just checked and it looks like 2" or something along those lines (may be 1-3/4"). No issue at all clearing the single piston front calipers on the 69 as you can see from the back shot. Hope that helps you out. Thank You Very Much !!!!

Nice - those headers look awesome!

Can't wait to see the finished project. Great job!

Starting to get a little ansty for the new motor to come from the builder now. Had to swap cranks around as the first one didn't fit and that's what caused the delay. Callies shipped me another crank that they first turned down so the counter weights would clear a stock GM block. Now that it's come back it'll be balanced up with some heavy metal added to achieve the required bob weight. I dropped off a couple parts to the machinist on Thursday and he was getting set to finish up the balancing. Block has since been finished up, lifter valley cleaned and cam bearings installed. I'm thinking the rest should finish up real soon and we'll run the motor in a week or two. Once the Crossram is mated up it should soon be moving into the car. I think I can see a glimmer of light now, but hope I can stay focused while embarking upon an aggressive new business start-up this year.
A couple shots before it's all finished up and ready to run. :headbang: https://image.ibb.co/cYH6Tc/IMG_9225.jpg https://image.ibb.co/fqnvMx/IMG_9226.jpg https://image.ibb.co/mAUWuH/IMG_9229.jpg |
Been pretty busy the past couple months with numerous projects but got the new Crossram motor finished up and broke the cam in last week. Here are a few pics of the engine build which includes a Callies forged bottom end, a "stout" solid cam from Crower, and those familiar Trick Flow 186 aluminum heads from a previous build. Motor is 11.4 compression and should work really well with the Crossram mounted up. I'll dial in the 4295 carbs using this intake and the Crossram will be added once this motor goes into the green car.

Here's the sound of this new stroker at idle. I'll use it in this intake configuration to setup the Crossram carbs. Once it goes into the green car, the intake will be swapped out for the 2x4. It sounds wicked at 1200 rpm and can't wait to drive it now.
I can't get this funny grin off my face tonight. |

Precision work Graeme.

Killer Build....Thanks for Sharing!!

Wow stranger! :)

So I may have missed a post or two along the line but it looks like the Nova took up the Day 2 theme and the Z resto is back to factory stock, is that right?

Tim,
Those are not the Cragar's you might be thinking of. The ones I got from your buddy were moved along and this set shown here included fronts I sourced from Mike W. while the back were picked up from Dave S. I now have an even better set of fronts I got from Sam S. I think these guys have turned me into a Cragar junky. All of the day II stuff is now on the Nova and the Z/28 is going completely bone stock. Separate thread for this in Member Rides |
