Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Schonye, we also usually refered to the car simply as "the Deuce". I would love for you to start a thread about your Deuce and the story of how you came to buy it and a little about it's life back in the day, complete with lots of old pics. I'm realizing now just how special long-time original owners are and how really attached they are to their cars. As you said earlier "a part of their soul stays with the car". It's almost like "our" Deuce was one of our kids and even though "she" has left the nest we will always want to keeep track of "her" and see how "she" is doing! So far we couldn't be happier with where she is now(with you and a few of her kin), and where she will be eventually(with Sam,a former local).

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
How about moving into the back room at 106 North Main! I can take the first Lady shopping during the day to keep her out of your way! Maybe take her to visit Howie, Jensen, Clint etc. Then go to Cedar Rapids and spend your money at the Shopping Centers and Malls https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

I'll see if I can get some pix when I'm up there next week https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif! I tried to coax Schonye to do a shelf inspection at the Double D with me, but he said that probably wasn't going to happen https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif. Guess I'll just have to get Joe to come along with me. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
I think you need the alum slots on the back though to slide into the parking lot at Daisy Dooks with a 12 pack of Old Style or Hamms in the back seat.

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
On my way back from WPAFB last week I laid over in Chicago and drove 'cross Illinois to Donahue and took a peek at the Deuce. Beautiful day with ominous wx on the horizon. Met up with Schonye and Kevin (mechanic) and took an up close look-see at the Deuce. Joe was squirtin' Alan Foreman's HO Nova so I missed him.
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif and https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif!!! She looks very fine. The photos are a mere tease. Here is proof she is running... High idle! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ce-Roof082.jpg Schonye said the tach's red dial indicator had something to do with the break-in process... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif |

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Paint and finish on the Deuce are stunning. Wayne Bushey (Nova Nationals Pres) visited in the a.m. before I got there and really liked the accuracy of the F. Blue that Justbad Joe mixed and requested the formula. Nice job Joe!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Whttps://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gifW Sam!!!
It's great seeing the progress and details of this lucky Deuce also how this whole Cinderella story has unfolded since the Roofs first dropped into our little corner of automotive cyberspace.. BUT...and sorry to toss any negatives around here but considering the new posting rules, has anyone else wondered what the outcome would be if today was the first time the Roofs and their Deuce dropped by also what other great people and their cars we may now end up missing as a result?. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif ~ Pete |

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Nice signature block Mike https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif! Joe nailed the paint colors here too. Look just right. The original caps and Yenko stickers cleaned up real nice. Roofs took these off not too long after buying the Deuce (ran Ansen Sprints) and they weathered their storage well...

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Am having trouble with my router. Will post more later. Sorry.

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Roofs ran these SW gauges to monitor the goings-on in the engine bay. They mounted these below the Motorola 8-track which I am still working on...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ce-Roof034.jpg And for Sam S., please take note of the far left (oil press) gauge and stick that in your pipe and SMOKE it. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ce-Roof075.jpg |

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Ahh... you've been up to see the Dutchman. Benny has some nice cars. We've been happy to have helped him with some of them. Plus, he's good people.(If he could just stay away from that Sammy). https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif Thanks for the kind words. Hope to make your aquaintance some day. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Same here Ken! I didn't get to look at the car very well the first time I saw it. Ask the Plowman and bbbenny where I was when I first got there. I went right under the car. Everything looked the same as what you are doing to the Roof Deuce! And bbbenny's is a Drag Car!
PS, don't worry about Sammy, I'm gonna try and ween him to some different CAKE! |

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
I'm dragging my Deuce project out from hibernation and have a question. Do you have the location dimensions for the hood tach? My car did not have the original hood on it when I bought way back so I've got a correct hood now and need to drill it for my hood tach. The picture can get me close but I thought you might have some measurements.
BTW, your restoration looks fantastic. Thanks, Bob |
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Hey Bob, I wondered where you've been. I'll try to get you some location pics and shoot you an e mail. Git er done. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
|
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
I've got measurements somewhere, I'll see if I can find 'em. No need to be too exact with the tach location, they were sort of like stripes - 'close was good enough'!
|
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Bob,
Here are a few reference photos for a "ball park" reference with and without(a bit hard to see) tach in place. This hood is original to the car. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/IM003072.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/IM003059.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ce-Roof051.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ce-Roof036.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ce-Roof077.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ce-Roof072.jpg |
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
These pictures will work great.
I took a long break from working on my car; I really do not have a place to work on it during the winter. I'd like to get the paint on this Fall. I've debated the bc/cc vs. ss until I can't see straight; I'm going with ss (I think). Got a good formula for PPG ss Cranberry Red? |
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Bob, I have a template somewhere. I see if we can scan it and send one to you. I have a ppg bc/cc formula if you want it. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Bob,
Joe Barr (CamaroJoe) has quite the collection and should be able to give you an idea. Of course it depends on condition. Here are my originals, pock marks, faded, and all >>>> http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...s/P1110829.jpg |
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
I tried to find the fairly recent thread on radiator cap restoration, but couldn't https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif . Someone suggested using Windex and quad-ought steel wool. Worked wonders! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif I spent the last two evenings using plenty of elbow grease as it is pretty slow going. My Windex had a little vinegar (acid) in it which I think helps. Last photo compares my restored original to a reproduction. It is not a bad repop, but there are differences in the brass rivet and some details in the letters.
Big thanks to the fella who suggested the Windex and 0000 steel wool https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif ! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...s/100_0504.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...s/DSC_0097.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...s/DSC_0098.jpg |
