What's wrong with that color? It's new for '72, which makes it unique because there aren't '71s in that color.

Hey 442W30!
I've seen a few "sundance orange" GTOs and while they look great, they have no "stand-out" appeal. I have never liked earthtone colors on cars -- especially muscle cars!

What year is your 442? I had a 1970 442 --455 W30 convertible. Probably the most powerful car I ever owned.
Was a gas to drive! I used to drop the top and shut off the radio -- just so I could listen to the exhaust tone!

I also read that true orbit Orange is supposed to be dead-on the color of orange juice.
The reason being is that in summer '69, when the 1970 colors were decided, Neil Armstrong landed on the moon -- "TANG" was very popular as the "astronaut's drink", so Pontiac jumped on the popularity of NASA and developed "Orbit Orange".

Very Funny It's probably similar with the Buick GSX 70
Apollo White and Saturn Yellow.

Orbit Orange Production 618
Total GSX 70 Production 698
GSX Apollo White 280
GSX Saturn Yellow 398

I told Steve Statham about the Orbit Orange color when he photographed my Judge.
Hugger Orange for Chevy is Carousel Red for Pontiacs, color code "72". Olds has a very similiar color but it is not color code "72".

bandit, gtodon is correct. it was used on 71 gto's with special order. gary daniel in tulsa has a 71 455-ho gto that was built like a week or two after the judge option was dropped and it came with (original paint still on the car) orbit orange paint (phs shows something like special paint), judges stripes and rear spoiler all documented on the phs

Don't want to hijack thread, so PM me if you want to talk more about Oldses, although Pontiacs are my first love.

Just found anothermemo" Car distrib. Bulletin" dated oct, 3 1969. Lists special order on the 1970 model? Guess that means available on other models. I can't recall ever seeing it on anything other than Jdge & Gtos. http://host.threadshosting.com/~yenk...mlins/flag.gif http://host.threadshosting.com/~yenk...ns/scholar.gif

Hmmm. http://host.threadshosting.com/~yenk...s/confused.gif Didn't realize you could get any gear in the 455HO except the standard 3.42 due to emissions laws. A body was 3.55's. I tried to order 3.90's in mine and was refused. Dealer got notice that it was not available in anything other than 3.55 unless air was ordered and then they were 3.31's Optional gears were only available with the 400 in the a body. Don't know F body but would imagine if available in A body then available in F body also. http://host.threadshosting.com/~yenk...s/confused.gif There may have been 3.08's available also. Does PHS documents show optional gears? Just curious.
