Car Czar TV Show - 1969 Z/28
Has anyone seen this National Geographic TV show called "Car Czar"? They buy a car, restore it, and sell it at auction. I know, standard reality show stuff, but I caught this show last night, and they were restoring a 1969 Z/28. Cost over $100K.
Before: http://channel.nationalgeographic.co...1_04700300.JPG The interesting part was that it was a supposed 1-of-1 special order paint car, ordered in Athena Blue, a Cadillac color. After : http://channel.nationalgeographic.co...5_04700300.JPG Is this really the only Z/28 ordered in Athena Blue? Does anyone have any other pictures of Athena Blue being used on a Camaro or a non-Cadillac? I really like the color. |
Re: Car Czar TV Show - 1969 Z/28
The color is probably Athenian Blue.
I'd like to know how they knew what color it was. Special paint cars in non RPO colors have no indication on factory paperwork what the color is. Stripe delete cars have that noted on their broadcast sheets. That's why there is no way to know how many were finished in a certain color. Chevy didn't even publish production figures for RPO colors by product line. I am aware of a COPO-RS in Rampur Green, also a Cadillac color. Sold by a Chev-Cadillac dealership. Maybe where the Z/28 came from? |

did you see what a bath the guy took on the car when it went to auction? he had over 100k into the car as a non numbers matching special order paint z. he got 60k. it also had the wrong shifter in it and a half a dozen other things wrong with it. i believe when they pulled the fenders off, the side of the cowl was still the orig color,

Are we sure that there were no COPO parts on this Z28? So much of it was replaced, would some consider this a rebody? (note this thread https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbt...490&page=1)

Re: Car Czar TV Show - 1969 Z/28
Wait, that's the Ferrari guy from Barrett-Jackson? The guy that paid over $3 million for that Olds F-88, which is now worth about $500K? That's the same guy? I THOUGHT there was something familiar about him!
I thought he was just some dork they hired for the show. He goes into convulsions when the Z/28 engine is fired up, and he acted like a 4-year old when he saw the dyno sheet. So he's 0-3 in his investments. He lost $40K on the Z/28, lost money on the Amphicar, and people are still laughing about how much he paid for that fugly Olds F-88. Re: Car Czar TV Show - 1969 Z/28
IIRC, Ferrari Guy was only a designated bidder....the real purchaser was some guy who was starting an automotive museum in western Colorado.
