69 Yenko Camaro for sale on Hemmings

I noticed there is a 69 Yenko Camaro for sale on Hemmings. It is Hugger Orange with black stripes and a black vinyl top. It has X66 trim and is a 4 speed car that according to the seller was sold new at Colonial Chevrolet in Norfolk VA. There are no interior pictures, but it appears to have a tach sending unit on the firewall. Does anybody know which car this is? The options and selling dealer don't match to any of the cars in the registry. The only Hugger Orange with black vinyl top 4 speed car from Colonial that I see is Dru Diesners'. His is an 06A X44 car. Here is a link to it. https://hemmings.com/classifieds/car...o/2423149.html

There was at least one Yenko X66 in this Color Combo sold out of Jack Douglass Chevrolet.

This hugger orange vinyl top 4 speed Yenko is in the American muscle car museum collection. I saw it back in 2018. The white Yenko beside it did come from Jack Douglas. The dealer for this car was Gates Chevrolet. It’s the clockwork orange Yenko.

I knew Member Enio45 had owned the Clockwork car but wondered if the Orange Yenko Bill Hunter bought new and returned w/ engine troubles to swap for his DY Yenko was the same one but digging deeper, the Clockwork car is from Gates Mishawaka and Bill's two Yenkos from Gates' other location in South Bend.:hmmm:

According to my count there are 9 Hugger Orange 69 Yenko Camaros with black vinyl tops and 4 speeds. I have seen 8 of the 9 and they are all X11 and X44 cars. The only one I haven't seen is the one that was in the trailer in Wisconsin that was found several years ago. I don't know what happened to that car. The Gates car above used to be owned by Ed Montini. Coincidentally I just bought a new car that was dealer transferred from Gates. They are still in business.

The Orange Yenko that Bill Hunter bought new is an original paint car that is/was owned by Mic Price. It is an X66 car and doesn't have a vinyl top.

I've been wondering lately too what the current status of that HO Wisconsin semi-trailer car is...can't believe it's been 15 years.

There was at least one Canonsburg, PA. Yenko X66 in this Color Combo sold out of Jack Douglass. The direct order COPOs were X11 code.

mrays 10-06-2020 01:03 AM

John,

I only have 6 Hugger Orange Yenko ordered cars with automatics and only 3 without the vinyl top. I have never seen any of these cars in person though. Besides yours there's a Bresee car that Mick Price had at one time and a Marshall car. Cliff Ernst had one back in the late 80's early 90's, but I don't know which one it was. Otis Chandler also had one that later ended up at Legendary Motorcar, but I don't know which one that was either. From the information I have I don't think they were the same car.

mrays 10-06-2020 01:15 AM

Stefano,

I know there is a HO X66 car sold out of Douglass, but I didn't think that car had a black vinyl top. Was one added after the fact? The car in Hemmings appears to be a Hugger Orange X66 car with black stripes and a black top with a 4 speed. The add says it was sold new out of Colonial. I don't show any of the first 50 cars which were X66 cars going to Colonial. There is supposedly a later X66 car that is Hugger Orange with a black top, but it is an automatic car that was supposedly sold directly through Yenko. I was just trying to figure out which car this was in Hemmings since it doesn't match up to any of the cars on any lists I have.

here is something I saved on the trailer Yenko

MosportGreen66 10-09-2020 12:07 PM

What is the history of the HO Yenko Camaro on Hemmings? Does it have the born with, original motor and tags?

Thanks,
Dan

mrays 10-10-2020 03:14 AM

I e-mailed the seller through Hemmings a week ago and never received a reply. For someone asking $259K for a car the owner didn't supply very good photos or include much information in the add. The information provided doesn't add up to any of the known cars in the registry that I can tell. The ad says it's a Hugger Orange and all numbers matching with a Muncie 4 speed car that had a nut and bolt restoration and was sold new at Colonial Chevrolet in Norfolk VA. From the photos you can see it has a black vinyl top, X66 trim and a tach sending unit on the firewall. There are no photos of the trim tag so I don't know if it was originally Hugger Orange with a black vinyl top and X66 trim. I would also be interested to know if anyone has actually talked to the owner or looked at the car. There is also a Daytona Yellow 69 Camaro sitting right next to this car in the photos. That car has black YSC stripes, a black top and appears to have X66 trim as well.

Thanks,
Myron

Thats my HO Yenko car at the museum as stated above......mark acquired that car, my ralley green 68 yenko and my 1600 mile Z/28 some years back. I was happy that the cars ended up in a museum, they were trailer queens as many of you have seen them.

Carleen 10-12-2020 12:00 AM

I asked if he could double check the VIN number and got an answer

Vin is 616186 i have had this car for nearly 25 yr was yenko then, still is

mrays 10-12-2020 12:09 AM

Thanks for posting that. That car is not listed as a known car on any lists I've ever seen. I assumed it was an X44 car with X66 trim, but the info didn't fit any of the known cars.

Thanks for all the feedback - I am new and looking for my first YENKO....left the seller a message also on this car. So if i am reading all the correctly - it appears to be a real deal car with added X66 black rear and trim?? Appreciate the knowledge!!

mrays 10-12-2020 12:43 AM

I believe I saw this car at the Super Chevy Show in Indy in '97 or '98. At that time it just had a jacked up rear end and big drag radials on the back. I think it was running in the 12's at the time. I have a picture of it somewhere. I remember talking to Randy and him saying it was a real Yenko, but I didn't write the VIN down. This was before I was aware of any registries so I just took his word that it was a real Yenko. I had kind of forgotten about this car.
