My new Day 2 Project 1969 Camaro

Yes this is the car Charlie had for sale right here. It has been dropped off at my friends body shop to be painted in Cortez silver. I have been collecting parts for years for this project

It will be getting a SBC, because I need to use my NOS Chrome Hooker headers and side pipes. I also have a Chrome Lakewood 3 point roll bar. Hurst Ram Rod shifter, and off course real Lakewood tractions bars. The square ones. It will probably be a while before the paint work starts but I wanted the beginning pictures.

Congrats! That looked like a great deal on a solid '69 which almost never happens.

Can't wait to watch along with your build.

chevyman0429 12-02-2020 04:45 PM

Nice buy!

Parts tease for items going on the Camaro

AnthonyS 12-02-2020 06:08 PM

Kool and the Gang! Will be fun to follow along.

You really caught my attention when you mentioned you were going with SIDE PIPES. I like how you're thinking... and I'm glad to see you're going back to Cortez Silver.
Have you considered adding a day-two scheme to your paint? ;-]

Looking forward to following your build!

Let’s see the shifter!!

knowing DAN this is going to be one bad mother! congrats

NorCam 12-02-2020 10:30 PM

Cool little project car and a great stash of parts that I am sure will grow. Pulling up a chair and will be following along.

Postsedan 12-02-2020 11:59 PM

If we are Covid free and everything falls into place....come see it at the 2021 MCACN :)

You're not going to save it for the "barn find" display ...:dunno:

Postsedan 12-03-2020 02:32 AM

Nope, it's already at the body shop. Plus, she did not come out of a barn :)

My plans are to paint the car back to the original Cortez silver with black interior and keep it cool with period early 1970's parts. Lace paint? maybe graphics? maybe
Ryan as hard as it is to believe, I do not have an NOS Ram Rod. (LOL)

I will send the suspension and sub-frame out for powder coat.
There will be no pro-touring parts on this car, old school bias ply tires.

Sounds like a great plan. It's gonna be cool Dan.

I am going to look at an NOS Super Shifter that's new in the box this weekend.

Scored some more parts for the Camaro over the weekend.
A beautiful set of 186 heads. My friend had them under his bench for over 30 years I didn't even know he had them.
This L88 hood is a bolt on, lightweight, not sure if I am going to use this or not yet.

Still just gathering parts, car still not even in the body shop yet.

Postsedan 12-23-2020 12:36 PM

:)

Factory Z-28 heads, not converted.

Hard to find nice original heads, cool when you find them in your friends garage.

Even better when you can just pluck them out of there with no mention of having to bend over too far for them. (lol)

Scored this hood over the weekend and got my tunnel ram cleaned up. The hood had been around, but never has been drill for hood pins. Hard to believe in 45 years this hood was not used.

Postsedan 12-28-2020 11:00 AM

Day2 is more popular then ever :)

Outstanding score.

Dan

The last pic certainly looks familiar. Curious what kind of foam will be used between the skin and pad at the trunk hinge area. I will need to do that on the right side too.

Postsedan 01-08-2021 07:18 PM

The Cortez Silver and all those awesome Day2 parts will be spectacular :)

Dan

scuncio 01-08-2021 07:58 PM

Looks good. I really wanted this car but glad it ended up with you.

You know, if this were truly a 'Day 2' Camaro you would have kept the bondo'd quarters!

chevyandpontiac 01-08-2021 08:26 PM

We are going to install day 1 bondo LOL

Chuck_Burg 01-08-2021 08:45 PM

Hahaha I was thinking the same thing. My "Day 2" project was probably more "Day 2" before I started the project than it is now... What can I say? I like shiny paint and nice body work! Can't wait to see your project come together.

That would have been year 2. They seemed to rust out about that fast...:rolleyes2:

Rumbleguts396 01-16-2021 01:50 PM

I love your hood. I have the same one. Mine still has the Moroso decal on the underside. I haven't installed it yet. Soon !!! Your Camaro is looking Great !!! ROB

NorCam 02-28-2021 09:12 PM

Meanwhile back in the secret hideout, Dan is quietly going about the process while assembling an arsenal of Day 2 goodies for the 69 Camaro project. How about a few update pics. Is it advancing through the body shop at this point?

Postsedan 02-28-2021 09:29 PM

The “Day2 Speed Shop” is busy....Dan sent me some before and after pics.

But I will allow Dan to post them and comment. She is looking good :)

Dan

NorCam 03-01-2021 12:47 AM

Cannot wait to see the car.

I bought this front end set up right here on Yenko, it was a rusty pile (and a great deal thanks Dave), got it all broke down and cleaned up. I just ordered the seals for the calipers this morning. Lots and lots of sandblasting
This is the before and after pictures.

NorCam 03-01-2021 12:56 PM

That was a good save Dan. I saw that stuff for sale and was wondering if it could in fact be saved? Nice work on that for sure.

The subframe is back from powder coat and I have started to put pieces back on it.

Postsedan 03-08-2021 11:33 AM

Looking Great :)

NorCam 05-25-2021 04:28 PM

Meanwhile at the Day 2 Speed Shop...someone has been banging away without any updates in the past few months. What's going down over there Dan?

Body and paint coming along now?
