Z28 factory markings
5 Attachment(s)
I thought I would share some photos of my 69Z I’m rebuilding my born with drive train and after cleaning up the block ,suspension, I found some interesting factory markings. As more parts are cleaned I’ll post more photos.

I can make out the DZ which is quite typical to see scrawled on the side of the block...
FWIW one of the corvette parts houses has freeze plugs without anything stamped in the centers (like originals) same with the correct intake manifold gaskets with the "tab". |

Great details! You can see how thin the original engine paint was(the bright orange is a later addition) it really doesn't fill the grain of the casting - IT allows the heat to dissipate without blistering the paint. I love the dripping yellow down the side of the pitman arm - I use an eyedropper to replicate runs like that. Beautiful-- I responded to your pvt msg - you may see this first Corvette Central is where I last purchased my no mark freeze plugs. Another person told me that they picked some up on ebay - but they came out of Great Britain. |

Thanks
I checked corvette central Temporarily unavailable. I’ll check eBay someone has to make these |
Lloyd (Edgemont village) had some 1-1/4" plugs stamped out for the 472 intakes.
He could probably give an idea on the cost to manufacture 1-5/8 plugs at 100 pcs or less. The non marked ones are available on ebay coming out of England I checked earlier. |

Freeze plugs
Paragon has the freeze plugs . Just installed them in a z I am rebuilding.

Corvette Central carries the correct intake gaskets to match the exact intake profile of the Winters 472 intake. Once installed there is no extra gasket material visible around the intake valley and looks 100% correct.

My inner fenders were both marked with an X. Maybe this was needed because of the front Z/28 emblem holes ? :dunno:
Attachment 211557 |
The thinking was that the code marked on the fender extensions correlated to the code in box #103 FENDER PIERCING on the BBC. Thus far, not borne out. BBC copy for a Norwood Z/28-RS box #103 is marked YB.. Box #104 EMB. is marked G. Another Z/28 is YA G.
We would need many Z/28 BBCs to sort this out. Not going to happen. |

Like a check mark. When working on the assembly line it can be difficult to remember where you are at, particularly if the line is moving slowly, stopping/starting, or before and after breaks. K |

Is chalk used or a wax crayon?
|
Wax crayon. Like a tire marker.

G is the emblem code for Z28. R is RS. 6 is 396. (wonder if that's actually an E) 427 = no holes. :) |
