Short answer, yes some of us have seen it at Monmouth,and the Gibb show. Yes, it's a real deal car, and it's pretty cool. 10 cases of beer in the back, and still run in the 12s https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Kind of interesting where the market is on these old "race wagons", even record setting ones, with this one at 23 and Mo's Pontiac can be bought for 20.

I saw it on eBay the other day too but didn't post it knowing it's another cool car seemingly caught up in website politics?https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif.

Anyone else remember that car on the Fleer Gum card sets?.

Neat ride. The E-bay ads states their is a letter authorizing the use of the DH name. is it transferable?? if so is there a fee? is so how much?

How does that compare to this qoute then:
[ QUOTE ]
When a car is sold with a name on it , It seems to give the new owner the right to think he can use the name on anything he wants also.

[/ QUOTE ]

Does THINK
mean the new owner thinks they can continue to use the name as well or is a new authroization needed which would make the first one null and void after its sold for a fee of course. Sure am glad Chevy doesnt do it everytime one of their cars get resold as we would all be out some hard earned $$

Re: Dick Harrell 69 Chevy wagon Team Car on E-bay

A really cool piece of drag racing history, with little interest. Looks like they should have taken the $80,000 that was bid on the car at Mecum. After only reaching $23,000 last time on Ebay, this time stalled at $20,000.

Though part of the cars incredible history, the owner may want to consider taking the Dick Harrell logo off the car and not mentioning that part in the ad and see if that helps. I am guessing would be bidders are fearful of the dreaded phone call/letter from the DH camp.

It may..but is such a letter really binding? And even if it is, just because one is legally in the right does not mean they cannot be harassed.

Pardon my naiveté - but what is the problem if a person buys a genuine historical vehicle and displays it in its original configuration?

Nothing..Legally, as long as they do not make $$$ from it, trademark laws do not apply. Those laws govern commerce, not personal property. But the harasment can, and often times does, continue. Right Howie? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Glenn, Certian people seems to try to tell you what you can and can not do with the car. I was called by a person 3 days before I took the car to St. Louis. I was told I had to take a name off the car or their lawyer would be contacting & sueing me. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif

Personal opinions to follow;

Sad situation and the more it continues to escalate, the clearer it becomes who's more concerned about money than anyone paying tribute to these lost heros!.

Most surprising is how it seems more like the attitude a corporation exercising their rights to a product would have than those you'd expect would put the recognition of famous family members first?.

Great to see who's taking a stand against legal threats to share the true history of these famous cars and drivers!!!

Re: Dick Harrell 69 Chevy wagon Team Car on E-bay

Anytime they address this issue they say it is not about the $$$, but during the course of the phone call demanding you remove the DH name from your car, they will offer to sell you a licensing agreement. They go on and on about how it has to do with liability, will to me, that simply does not fly. Here is why. Kim can purchase a licensing agreement for his racecar, but must agree to cover up the DH name when racing, so case of an accident, the DH group is not named in any lawsuit. What if the car is involved in an incident at a non-racing event, with DH clearly visible on the side? Lets say leaving downtown Monmouth he goes into the crowd. Yep..They better have liability insurance. Which if they have liability insurance, then it should not matter if Kim covers the DH name up or not. In this day and time, to operate a business, especially one that sanctions “team cars”, better have liability insurance. IMO, the liability issue is simply a way for them to try and justify why you need to go through them to put DH on your car.

More personal opinions;
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif

If the need for licencing was truly more about liability concerns than money, why the attempt to gain control of the Fred Gibb name too?.
Protecting your own family and assets from possibile lawsuits, sure...but to intentionally try and put yourself into even more of a position of the exact same thing you claim you're trying to avoid speaks volumes!.

Wow,that wagon just put me in a time warp. I watched it race many times at NEITA (now Cedar Falls Raceway) in the seventies. It had the same paint scheme that it has now and it was really cool then as well!

That is one cool and significant Drag Car. You can measure the pics and docs with a ruler. Even just some of the paperwork and docs are historically significant.
