I used to own the fathom blue car, nice car. Had spoken with Todd about buying it if he ever decided to sell it.Hopefully it will surface unscathed.

Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04-08
Darren,
I am just the messenger on this. It was parked by grassy area. They just told me that the call to 911 was at 11:10pm. You must have walked by just before it happened. When I talked to Todd/Tony earlier they were pretty upset and they thought it was 10:30 |
Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04-08
It is unfortunate but if these cars are not found very soon they will probably be stripped. There is a lot more money to be made when these low-life scum sucking bottom feeders part a complete car out.

Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04-08
Then I am pretty sure I saw the rig. When I was walking to my car there was a kid walking a dog in the grass. Then when I got to my car and got in I saw a car pull into the grass (a Buick I think?). They pulled right next to me and parked in back of me. I had my windows open cause I couldn't see where I was going. When I drove by the car I saw two guys get out. I heard one of them say, "what time is it?" And I drove off. That was the extent of the activity I noticed. Not sure if it has anything to do with the crime at all? I hope they get them. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/mad.gif

Really sorry to hear this. Here are a couple of locks available. I am sure everyone that reads this won't leave home without a trailer lock !!
trailer wheel locks secure your trailer http://www.trailerlock.com/producthighres8.jpg |
Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04-08
I can't stand a thief https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/mad.gif.. I hope the cars and the rig are recovered. While I was away from home a while back my neighbor ran off a couple of guys scoping out my place. I had just brought home a rough 68 Camaro and it was sitting out back next to the garage. The neighbor told me he saw two guys pull up in front of my house in a truck with a car trailer. They looked through my front door and my back door then proceded to the garage and were in the camaro and one was looking through the garage window. When they saw my neighbor coming across the yard they ran to the truck and left. Thieves are getting bold ...... Again, I hope they catch the scum and retrieve all the property.

Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04-08
I think it's time to look researching GPS tracking devices. Lojack, Onstar or Mobile Guardian...there's got to be an easy, inexpensive way to install & track 'em so it doesn't happen to any of us https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif
|
Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04-08
This is the one thing that scares me to bring my car anywhere!!.I have a lojak in the car AND the truck!
|
Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04-08
Tracking devices are fine.........but I'm surprised more of you arent more pro-active about actually preventing the truck/trailer from MOVING...........as in disabling..... with the misc wheel, ignition, fuel lock devices......
|
Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04-08
How could the truck & trailer be "seen & chased" , 911 called right away, and, they got away without a trace. That's a shocker.
Darren, you should report what you saw to the police. |
Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04-08
While most of you recognize I've posted this picture before "with a laugh" in mind, I REALLY believe this is the only way to protect your cars.
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r.../000_0183s.jpg The two things I've done with my truck is a "buried" kill switch AND a hidden fuel shut-off vavle. http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...Driveway-1.jpg As for the trailer, I bought two measured lengths of REAL hardened steel locks and chains (not the HomeDepot kind), but the kind that has to be aceteylen torched to cut and locked both left and right rear wheels together. If you're not up to this, then sleep in your truck/trailer with your gun..... Jeff x 2 https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif |
Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04
Sure seems like its getting worse I hope you guys find the cars.
We got our motorhome for just this reason well one good reason anyway sure makes travling with the car better. when I do tow with the pickup and have to leave it (never overnite) I pull the relay for the fuel pump and take it with me. The wife wanted me to get plates with (ZL1 N TOW) and I wouldn't even do that I don't want anybody to know what I have in the trailer. Also have a wireless driveway alarm you put the box where someone gets where he shouldn't be and it sets off an alarm that's plugged in to 110 it works great for $79 from northern.we used it to catch some thiefs getting fuel from our irrigation well about 300 feet from the house it worked great |
Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04
These guys have done this before and are probably following us (car people) around. My guess they know collector cars well and are members on many car sites. The best we can do for now is to make yourself a univiting target. I always would use numerous locks in plain veiw and no advertising of what's inside.

Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04
I think you are right. At the SCR-Even with the guard in the lot I slept better knowing the trailer was a hard target when I put the big stick device on my trailer wheel. The cheaper trailer devices can actually damage your trailer and are far easier to defeat.
For example I checked out the Trailer Keeper first. It is cheaper than the Big Stick, but in the end it is more time consuming to set up each time and it will cause damage to your trailer equipment, as will most other wheel locks on the market. It is a pain in the butt too. With Trailer Keeper -A lug nut has to be removed every time it is set up or taken down to prevent the wheel from going out of balance if their "lug latch" is left on by accident in transit, and if you forget to remove it Trailer Keeper can come in contact with the trailer fender and tear it up when you try to move it. In addition Trailer Keeper is attached to only one lug pin. Big stick is attached to all 5 and has an armored housing to protect the lugs. The Big Stick will ride outside of the fender rim if you forget to remove it (I already did BTW.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif) and is much stronger because it attaches to all 5 lug pins. Finally the big stick mounting hub can be left on at all times without effecting wheel balance because it is symetrical. IMO... You get what you pay for. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04
I realize this is an OPEN trailer that was stolen, but this should underscore more then ever why NOT to paint any kind of logo or advertise what's inside ones CLOSED trailer.
I've contacted some Chevelle parts hounds in this area to see if any "newly discovered" LS-6,70 Chevelle or A-body parts come through the pipeline. |

Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04
------You could also say that an unadorned (by any artwork) trailer would give you less to describe to the police if the worst did happen. I would, however, stop short of announcing exactly what was inside as some guys have done.........Bill S

Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04
The thiefs have been doing this at the bike gigs like Bike Week ans Sturgis for years. Many beleive it is the bike gangs that come to enjoy the gig and steal some bikes. They usually have a wharehouse they are using or a rig parked somewhere waiting to accept the stolen bikes. I know someone who got to see the survalence video of her bike getting ridden out of the hotels "secure" parking at the Love Ride in Los Angeles. These thiefs are usually well organized so that car and trailer were probably pulled into a building inside of 10 min of being stolen and loaded into another truck .That is why they are so bold , they have a plan. You have to be super careful these days .This absolutley sucks !

Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04
Unfortunitly, nothing has been found. There has been a few leads from people in the vicinity that are being checked. Tony and Todd wanted me to thank everyone for the calls with info. They also can not believe that everything vanished so quick. Tony has promised $25,000 CASH for the return intact of the cars/truck/ trailer no questions asked or $10,000 for information that leads to arrest . Call Tony at 815-955-9023 or Todd 815-207-545.
Once again,I am posting as a friend and to let know what happened. Any questions or info call them. |
Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04
Ask them to post pics of the vehicles. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/mad.gif (or send one of us an email for use to do it for them) Words are great in the description but this group here could keep an eye out if truck/trailer/cars are seen. You'd be surprised how small this world really is. Just my .02cents https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif

Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04
I think that I have some pics of my old ls6 somewhere and can post them if need be.If it's my old car it's a very nice fathom blue, white stripe car, black bench seat.Of course it may be another car that Todd also has,but it sounds like my old car that I sold to him.I have not gotten in touch with him yet to see if in fact it was my old car.

Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04
The more outrageous the trailer the better... PAINT SOMETHING LARGE ON THE ROOF!!!! That way the police can see it from the AIR!!!!
This is why Levi's Painted their trailers with Stage Coaches and the top of the trailer with a Big Red Levis Logo... |
Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04
The car is listed in LEADS as being stolen. Hopefully it will not be damaged.

Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04
A "Silly" Question...........But why was the Rig Parked across the Street from the Auction with the cars on it?? Were they cars that were bought at the Auction and loaded on the trailer??......I guess a better question would be....Why weren't they in the Secure Fenced in Auction area???.....Hope they get the Scum Bags Soon and hopefully the Cars can be recovered intact..........

Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04
I would check the videos mecum has for all of saturday and look for maybe 3 people around you. odds are you were cased. then when they went to steal the rig, one probably stayed behind on a cell phone watching you. think real hard about who was around you all day, nobody takes a slow rig out without knowing what you are doing. try to get one ID that way.
if it were me thinking like a theif, i would have put the whole rig in a vacant building as close as posible in an industrial park (available for rent, and we all know nobody is renting in these bad times) near by, and then later come back and get the cars on sunday with a different trailer. the trailer is probably sitting nearby still in an empty building a mile or 2 away. you should check to see if your toll tag tripped on the truck, if it went out of town. |
Re: Stolen from Mecum Auction-St.Charles,ILL 10-04
Tony, sorry to hear about the loss.
I haven't posted here for a while, but am still checking every glimmer for a [now deceased] buddy's Motion Corvettes. I hope you have much faster results. I will never stop looking, I know that... |
