80 year old muscle

http://www.madle.org/bug35b28.jpg

here is the sistership? 1928 Bugatti of a recently completed 10 year rebuild that is actually street driven. one of the winningest cars ever built ( won all of over 2000 races entered according to web). After waiting all summer I am planning on riding shot gun with video on monday morning ( the car is only driven in low traffic and moderate temp conditions because of no radiator) The owner/driver is 80 plus years old and has owned this car for almost 50 years.
( if you never here from me again you can assume things did not go well. there is just something about those cable brakes...)

Mr. Bugatti was quoted as saying that his cars were made to go fast, not to stop. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif
Try not to smile too much while filming, the bugs taste awful this time of the year. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

this shot shows some of the high tech braking system. I believe there may be seperate controls for left and right in the rear to assist in making high speed turns (I hope we're not doing any of that!)

The pedal operates the front brakes?

Here is the power plant that spent almost 8 years touring machine shops of the northeast. When it came home and was installed it ran great but there was one small problem, the rebuild had created much more compression than the old starter could handle..

yep, the crank was just too much for Peter who had just turned 80.

so if you look back to the two upper shots you see some cylindrical aluminum bracket aft of the crank with the arrows on it. That was one of several attempts by more dedicated craftsman to mount an electric starter to the top of the gearbox. After almost three years and I lost track of how many tries, somewhere in Pennsylvania a man yelled EUREKA ! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif

This is NOT a trailer queen or a show car. This is a race car that he drove on the street from when he got it in 1960 until he blew it up in the early 90's https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif

Man he was building cool cars back then. All that machine turned metal had to be state of the art back then. I love those cars.

That is way past being a car of any sort. It is artwork in the purest sense.

Re: 80 year old muscle

Mark, I am STILL working on the videos and YES the car IS artwork. Bugatti did go to scool for art before quitting and becoming an apprentice at a machine shop. My visit today was so incredibly educational. The story of Bugatti from school to burying cars in the ground while hiding during the war in Greece, all fascinating! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif

That is an incredible car.

There were two brother's that had secretly put together an unbelievable car collection housed in warehouses . No one knew about the cars until some fuss went down and the French government seized all the assets. When opening a few wharehoues on the property they were surprised to find a car collection . Included was a serious collection of Bugatti's . What the French government said the brothers/owners owed them was far less than what the cars were worth. Needless to say they never got their cars back ): If ever in France go check it out

Does anyone know the why the color blue ? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

Blue was the color that indicated the car was from France in international race competition.
