ET mag selection for my '62...Opinions????
I had a friend do some photoshop magic for me to help me decide what look might be best when I put the old ETs on the blue '62. He dubbed in a blackwall tire and colored the spokes.
So, since I respect your opinions, here goes. Take a look at these 4 selections: Natural, light gray, med gray and dark gray and let me know what you think. Try to imagine all 4 on the car. Natural: http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...netirecopy.jpg Light gray http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...relitegray.jpg Medium gray http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...mediumgray.jpg Dark gray http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...nedarkgray.jpg Thanks! .........Decisions, decisions, decisions. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif I'm kinda partial to the natural (old and un-refined as it is) but I'm curious what you guys think. Re: ET mag selection for my '62...Opinions????
Polished rim and natural (rough texture) spokes. Hard to improve on the way they came out of the box.
(Of course that's just one opinion. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif) |
Re: ET mag selection for my '62...Opinions????
Vern I painted my ET mags with some rattle can black paint with silver flake. It looks like a dark gray but it sparkles like crushed opal. Mark

Re: ET mag selection for my '62...Opinions????
I like the light gray with the dark blue and the chrome on the side of the car. I have ET's on my car and used the rattle can color "steel wheel silver". I was really happy with the look. You can see a close-up of my wheels in the members rides. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/show...e/0#Post367614

Re: ET mag selection for my '62...Opinions????
My vintage Americans were a little stained so I painted the center area. A little too glossy for my liking but they clean up easier now. I used a color with a slight gold tint to try to replicate the early ARE coloring.

Re: ET mag selection for my '62...Opinions????
Natural light aluminum centers look way better than dark centers IMO.
|
Re: ET mag selection for my '62...Opinions????
I vote for a totally different choice... a tint of gold.

This is how it looked in the late '70s at E-Town. http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...-Town70ssm.jpg I'm leaning toward natural or medium myself. He also had the brake drums painted blue, but that's one feature I'm NOT bringing back... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif Verne https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif |
Re: ET mag selection for my '62...Opinions????
I like that look. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif Do you still have the tach on the dash?
|
Re: ET mag selection for my '62...Opinions????
I'll probably put the tach back on the steering column where it was originally. There are no extra holes up on the dash; he made a bracket that used an existing inst cluster hole.

I vote back on the column! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif

Re: ET mag selection for my '62...Opinions????
I like the dark gray, but it's hard to beat that pic of it at English Town.

Thanks Darren.........I was afraid someone would say that. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif I still have those tires but I was planning to get rid of them and go with blackwalls. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif
This is what they looked like right after I got the car home and washed it down. It sure is nostalgic, but they never really grew on me. http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...rETcleansm.jpg I hope you haven't started another voting campaign.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif Verne https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif Earlier that same day with 2 of my best friends https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...lLoadingsm.jpg |
Re: ET mag selection for my '62...Opinions????
Verne,
LOOOVVE you car. It's like a car I had back in 1979. Mine was a bench with the spaghetti shifter. Unfortunately there are only a couple photos of it that I know of. After I got married and fell on some hard times I reluctantly sold it. It was a very sad day indeed. Heres one of the few photos of it at Indy at the Car Craft Nationals. http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...28/blue093.jpg Im getting misty eye'd, Man some day I hope I can cruise in it with ya. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif White walls there also! |
Re: ET mag selection for my '62...Opinions????
Did the early American Torq Thrusts on my black 66 SS with Alumi Blast. I like the light centers with the black walls and dark car. Just an opinion.

Re: ET mag selection for my '62...Opinions????
Carl,
Sorry to hear you had to sell yours. ( I know the remorse because I'm selling a '61 that I really wanted to bring back). Your old car looks like Nassau Blue, just like mine. (personal taste, but probably the best color in '62! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif) Looks like yours had 2x4s. VERY bad situation there. Drinks TOOOOO much gas. NO good for commuting. On a serious note.........when mine is back on the road, you are most welcome to share the experience with me (limpy shifter and all) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif Verne https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif PS: I would have been ALL OVER that car if I'd been there in '79 https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif |

Street Nats !!!!!!!!!!!!1 Yup https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
Verne Ive got an NOS headlight bezel if your interested. Only part left. It has some of the protective coating on it in spots. |
Re: ET mag selection for my '62...Opinions????
I was at the 79 Nats. I was 17 at the time. I was just looking at my old photos but couldn't find your car - thought I might get lucky. I was actually parked in that same area with 3 or four other pace cars,
That was the year I brought my 69 Z11 pace car and my brother brought his Daytona yellow 69 SS396 Camaro. I was a hellacious trip. He went through two clutches, a camshaft, 3 rocker arms and other assorted crap in the 1600 mile roundtrip. We had to do a cam change in the hotel parking lot during the event. We eventually got into a fight after he had a little too much fun with the motel maid and got us kicked out (she left with him! - kind of a "Dirty Mary-Crazy Larry" movie script, I know). I left him somewhere along the way and drove back solo. We both took different routes back to CT and ran right into the odd-even license plate gas rationing fiasco. It took him a week to get back, only getting 5 gallons per fillup on alternate days. Oh those were the days! (We still get along https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif) Oh, Verne. My vote is for the natural aluminum finish. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
